    Default Duke Nukem Fails Forever

the long slow fall of duke nukem forever
    http://www.wired.com/magazine/2009/1...uke_nukem/all/

even if this article was released before duke nukem forever was released ( and we all know what happend to that a boring mess of a game 10 years too late with a creepy hatefull view of women ) it still shows the slow torturous descend of 3d realms in a manner thats reminicsent of ion storm and daikatana
or trilobyte and everything after the 7th guest

you can find the daikatana article here http://web.archive.org/web/200006191...ana/p9_01.html

    and trilobyte here http://web.archive.org/web/200612051...tures/btg-tri/

It was an okay game. Nothing special, but it wasn't absolutely abysmal. It has a million times more right to call itself a game than something like Sword of Sodan does.

Also, I don't get what this "hateful view" of women bullshit is about. If anything, Duke loves women a little too much. Really, he's not doing anything different from Duke Nukem 3D. It's all par for the course for ol' Duke.

Whether you enjoy Duke in the first place is another matter. For me personally, I find it hard to get into Duke because he has none of his own catchphrases.

mostly the hatefull attitude towards women in some of the later levels and the concept art

i never liked duke much in the first place but this thread mostly is about the games tortured development cycle

much like that of daikatana and the 11th hour

only valve can pull off long tortured developemnt cycles and get away with something worth while it seems

Nope, Duke glorifies women to the point of absurdity, which was the point of Duke 3D. Forever hasn't really changed much. It's the sort of game that steps out of a time capsule. You are looking at the game with a completely different, politically correct perspective. If Duke Forever was out in 2000, people would have greatly enjoyed it.

no im just looking at what it is
a game 10 years too late with grossly unfunny humor

and the title if anybody hasnt figured it out yet is click bait

and its about the development cycle of the game not the game it self

It didn't feel like a Duke game to me; it felt like it tried to be a Duke game though and failed miserably. Even if it was 2000, I'd still feel the same.

The biggest problem with Duke Nukem Forever is the biggest problem with most modern FPS games

Yay for boring linear shooting galleries where I can hold 2 weapons?

That's an insult to virtua cop style games man, those were much better than any recent COD game.

Except those are fun because you have a light gun to enjoy it with, Duke Nukem Forever has no such advantage

I played house of the dead PC with a mouse and I liked it that way .

Duke Nukem Forever is just bad. It pokes fun of modern shooters while being one, completely hypocritical.

Maybe it's because rail shooters are 20-30 minutes and don't have the time to get boring? It's just, whilst Duke Nukem 3D isn't exactly the pinnacle of FPS gaming it's levels are well designed with a lot of fun, unique weapons, Duke Nukem Forever doesn't have those two things and the humour is no where near as on point as the earlier titles anyway, although that might have something to do with age.

I'll take Virtua Cop over COD all day, every day.

I'm telling you, there was no hateful attitude towards women in any level. He may have objectified them all to hell, but that's a far cry from hateful.

Also, DNF made me laugh out loud once, when Duke said, "Power armor's for pussies!" Too bad it was completely hypocritical.

And then we had regenerating health.
Honestly, the elements for another "Duke" game were present in Forever, albeit horrible mangled and in what I like to call a "comatose-near-death" state.
From a gameplay standpoint, they just made the wrong move; trying to mix the old 90's shooter elements with modern FPS elements.
Think about it this way, leaving out the story for now, would you have been more likely to play Duke Nukem Forever if it had the classic elements with updated graphics?
