    Default 5th Generation Fighters?

I've been a fan of fighters for the longest time. I've played everything from Tekken and Virtua Fighter, to Street Fighter and King of Fighters.

Here's the question I pose to you, the community: Of the 5th Generation, What game and on which system did you enjoy the most. Personally, I would go with Tekken 3 on the Playstation.

Does Street Fighter Alpha 2 count? Or 3?

If not, then I'd have to say Mortal Kombat Gold (although it's on the DC, it is technically 5th gen because it came out during that era).

I've also enjoyed the Virtua Fighter and Tekken series (I'm partial to the Virtua Fighter series, though. Simply because the gameplay mechanics are on par with Yu Suzuki's Shenmue. Although I feel Tekken is far more responsive, I feel I know exactly where every hit will go with Virtua Fighter). So... Virtua Fighter series on the Saturn is my pick; but...

...Tekken 3 on the Playstation (original) is an excellent choice. It is one of the best games for the system.

They both came out on the Playstation and Saturn, so I don't see why not.
Also, I guess late Neo Geo games count, as they were released around the same date as Tekken 3.

I'd say the Street Fighter Alpha series came out, based on when it was released. Street Fighter Zero 3 was one of the last released Saturn games, it came out in 1999.

My favorite 5th gen 3D fighter is probably Savaki, which is extremely obscure and came out only on the Saturn in Japan.

Favorite 2D fighter in the 5th gen is probably Real Bout Fatal Fury Special (that one was released after the PS1 and Saturn were out on the neo-geo, and also was released on both the Saturn and PS1, so i guess it counts as a 5th gen fighter)

Fighters Megamix. And although FM was a crossover between Virtua Fighter 2 and Fighting Vipers, the latter two are also good by themselves.

I liked a lot of the capcom 2d fighters on the Saturn. Darkstalkers, SF/alpha, xmen vs.

3D wise I like fighters megamix, not as pretty as some of the others, but still pretty good, and I think it holds up well on the fun factor. But generally the 2d fighters hold up much better visually.

Im a Street Fighter Ex Plus Alpha guy and I enjoyed it way more than Tekken 3. There's just something magical about the Street Fighter franchise that the Tekken franchise cant capture. Better characters, flashier moves better gameplay IMO, and more fun. Games like Tekken are more like button mashers and you gotta put in too much effort to master them. I had Dead or Alive on Playstation and its a great looking game just not fun to me.

For 2D its between Darkstalkers III and SF Alpha 3 but once I got Alpha 3 on Dreamcast I stopped playing the PSX version because the Dreamcast version was uncut.

One game I missed was Fatal Fury Wild Ambition. Would have loved to have picked it up when it came out but I didnt know about it. I wasnt following what SNK was up to at that time. I heard its not as good as SF EX Plus Alpha but I still wish I had it.

I really liked the EX series too. There's some killer tracks in Plus Alpha's OST.

I have it. One of my guilty pleasures, actually. It's decent for what it is.

Fighters Megamix was a MAJOR hit in Japan, I always wondered why the hell SEGA never made a sequel.

My favorite 3D Fighter is Fighter's Megamix, my favorite 2D Fighter is a 3 way tie between Street Fighter Alpha 3, X-Men vs Street Fighter, and Vampire Savior.

The Saturn could not be beaten with fighters. I loved Fighters Megamix and played it to death when I got it. I really wish a DC sequel had been made. Or even a newer game using the VF5 engine. Seeing as I mentioned VF5, I will now have to state how much I hate SEGA for no retail VF5 Final, I was utterly disgusted by that. Even Japan didn't get one and yet they still charged more than a disc would have cost to buy the whole game.

One thing I never understood was why the voice samples are so bad in some of Crapcom's games. Street Fighter Zero 3 is absolutely horrible. Zero 2 was also crap compared to the crystal clear samples of the PS1 version, SFZ3 was the same. Considering SFZ3 had more than twice the RAM of the PS1 version, horribly compressed sounding samples are a joke. I don't remember Vampire a Hunter or Saviour, which were both exclusives, (well Saviour was exclusive when it was being made) sounding bad. Maybe Sony paid them off, lol! They paid them to release all the SFZ games (among others) 6 months earlier on the PS1 so who knows?

    superstreetfighter 2 megadrive 2
    mk trilogy saturn
    third strike dreamcast
after the dreamcast there was a long stop
    then

mk vs dc made me love mk armageddon and psp unchained

after that i didnt play fighters anymore
    they are losing spirit

capcom should stay 2d and evolve that
MK should bring back the mk trilogy like physics
and in common all companys should freaking stop making male characters behave like females.

these pixelshading shit made all characters look metrosexual.

Yeah, now that I look back Fighters Megamix would be an obvious choice, but seeing as I haven't played much of Megamix, I still prefer Tekken 3.

SF Alpha 2 easily. Saturn port. Although I prefer arcade version due to the better music, "arcade" does not count as 5th gen.
