    Default Dreamcast vga mod?

What if I soldered a female vga port to the dreamcast av pins (internally) but didn't use any capacitors, transistors, diodes, or anything? Like, I just took wires and soldered them straight av-->port?
Would this work? And, what are the odds my "borrowed" vga port from a computer motherboard will work?
And, would I be able to use the composite audio?

No, it wouldn't work. The components are needed.
Yes, you can use a borrowed vga port from anywhere.
Yes, you can get video from the vga port mod you make and audio from the normal composite cables.

    Ok. Only two more things:
    1. Can I use a black rocker switch with only two contacts
    2. About how much will the capacitors, resistors, and diodes cost and how do I ground a wire?

I guess you could use that switch if you connect VGA Select and RGB Select on one pole and Ground on the other.
To ground a wire just connect it to the Ground pin on the AV port.
Components should be fairly cheap. Including a breadboard if you plan on following mmmonkey's guide they should be at most $10.

Now, I don't mean to be an ass, but considering your questions I would advise you don't rush the job, read a lot and practice soldering before attempting the mod.

^price sounds great, I already have a breadboard, and I'm reading a lot. I have been practicing with my iron for almost a week now, as long as I know what I should be doing I'm going to be alright I think. Thx for the concern though. I'm really glad to have someone helping. Speaking of which, if you want I can email you pictures of my soldering if need/wanted.
Following mmmonkey's diagram, I've connected a red, blue and green wire to the corresponding vga port pins.
Now, should I have two ground wires for the two groups (the three and the two) or should I connect all the ground pins and have one wire?

EDIT: the grounding question is useless because I can't put solder on the pin between them, it would mess up the pins.

I don't know the interest there is in these internal VGA boards but I could adapt a version of my DC SD Card Reader Addon to have larger solder points on the back end of the board instead of a ribbon connector, but have the quick solder connections to the back of the AV pins. This will make soldering to those 0.5mm pitch pins alot easier for anyone attempting these mods. I will even release the gerber files so anyone can order them for themselves. If no one has any interest I won't bother though.

^not too many people have posted here yet, so try spreading the idea elsewhere. It sounds good though!

    UPDATE #1
Rgb, h-sync, v-sync, and ground wires are soldered onto the vga port.
As soon as I get new components construction of the circuit board will begin.

Total cost so far: $10.00 Canadian, for a rocker switch and a "Multipurpose Pc board" for the capacitors and stuff to be soldered to

    I bought one of these:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-HD-DC-VG...item2c7896c79b

It took its time coming in as I'm in the States but it was worth the wait. Works Flawless.
I know how to solder but didn't feel like messing around with the Dreamcast VGA Internal Mod.
Having issues with your Game Gear..?
    Low to no sound..
    Dim Screen...
    No Power...

Contact me. I do capacitor replacement which will fix these issues

^ I'm mainly doing the mod because I needed a project to do.

Helder, I'd be interested in seeing how compact you can make the video/sync line component board using SMD instead of throughhole, even if it came without the quick solder points for the connector.

The cable linked above is interesting, but insufficient for me, I would need to switch between VGA and RGB on the same port, as I use a VGA to BNC cable for 15k-only games on a PVM.

Seconded. I've seen your SD car board(s), something similar for a VGA mod would be great. It'll make it easier to internal VGA mod a DC.

Ok so you guys want the a quick solder board like the SD one and perhaps a small pcb with all components needed except for 2 or solder points for an external switch? Throw me some ideas so I can work something out in my head and put it on paper.
