    Genesis No 'up' motion

Bought a Model 2 Sega Genesis not too long ago, and for whatever reason, you cant move up on it. I figured it was the controller connection, but ruled that out after 3 known good ones were used and I had cleaned/scrubbed the pins. Tried my other Gen 2 to rule out the controllers further and they worked fine in both ports. Anyone ever hear of this problem before? -Ben

You likely have a broken or bridged solder joint on the controller port - you could try reflowing the pins on the motherboard to see if it helps.

Have also seen once (but only once) a broken off pin in the console itself.

I had this problem with a Model1 HDG I bought. The ports were badly damaged by somebody who tried to fix it before, so I ended removing the original ports and soldering new DB-9 ports. Now it works perfectly and it's my main Genesis for gaming.

    Regards.
