Question Pop'n music newbie here, need advice!

So today I was playing Umjammer Lammy and Space Channel 5 on PS2 and realized that I want more good rhythm games to play. I already have Guitar Hero and DDR, and because I have a japanese PS2, am interested in getting a hold of a Pop'n Music controller and some of the games. What I want to know however, since I am very unfamiliar with Pop'n as a whole, things I should know about the controller like are there big changes between the different models, compatability issues or whatever, etc. and info about the game discs themselves, since I heard some were just expansions that required a certain volume to use. Also wondering how much I should shell out for at most for a controller. I'm going to be playing them on PS1/PS2 specifically.

Also eyeing Keyboardmania and ParaParaParadise but again, I don't know what I should be looking for. Thanks.

It's not Pop'n Music but you would probably also like Gitaroo Man if you haven't played it.

Have you tried Taiko Drum Master?
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."
