Default Modern Driving games replace Genesis ones for you?

Yay, just got my PC back with a ton of improvements and even more tera gigs of free space (would of got it back way sooner if I'd of had used the phone sooner, lol). Anywho, was away on the X-Box 360 & PS3 modern gaming world in the meantime for sometime now after some crazy Genesis Driving games binge I had, and I finally decided to put them aside for a bit to investigate + buy some modern driving games too. My personal results to this topics question? No way. I never gave old racers a chance before, but after having done so very extensively, I have to say it's very sad to see the death of 2D racers like on the good ol' Genesis. Basically the end of a genre, is as far as I'll go. These new Driving games are way too different to fully replace Genesis classics like Lotus II:RECS & Top Gear 2 for the Genesis.

I still need to play more modern Driving games to further make sure of things, so why I ask others here on their thoughts? Me?... Well, I've been currently sidetracked yet again with this new crack called Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Online. I only need like 87 million more to max everything out, lol. And I got Elder Scrolls Online too?!

Yes, I love a good arcade racer, but Gran Turismo 6 has a lot more tracks and cars than say, Virtua Racing.

I'd rather & still play something like the original Sega Rally with only 4 tracks & 3 cars over and over again then still being able to go back to any Gran Tourismo game again after I beat it only once. To me that series has zero replay. ... And the saddest part is all racers want to be like Gran Tourismo now. :P I really don't like how every racer now tries so hard to be as close to real life as possible. How about focusing on making a game, cars handling & track designs to be fun instead?

Heck, track designs are repeating like crazy too since they're being based on real life ones too. Who needs game design anymore. Just copy the real life tracks & car physics, add lots of graphical polish + some crazy crap licenced music them kids love today but will hate tomorrow, and voila, you have the modern racer formula.

And folks say they love the countless amount of cars & tracks, but like they'll ever have the time to come even close to mastering even a fraction of any of them. Cause hey, that casual gaming. And most are sadly fine with that...

I gotta say games like Lotus II/Top Gear/Crazy Cars/etc haven't aged too well imo.
When it comes to racing games I prefer the newer stuff like Daytona/Sega Rally/Ridge Racer.

Because some people enjoy those kind of racers, just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's not 'fun'. It's just not fun to you.

Also the music in Gran Turismo is good, the series has had a wide and decent selection of music for some time now, the only one with particularly dated music is GT2.

I hated Gran Turismo from the very first minute I played it.
Now give me a Need for Speed any time for proper racing fun.

Not driving games, but I find it difficult to play Streets of Rage/II/III now after SoRR.

I really miss SEGA racers. The last racing game I fell in love with was Outrun 2. New racers just don't do it for me. I am not into the "open world" bullshit of Burnout and sims like GT bore the shit out of me. I'll stick to Outrun, SEGA Rally, Powerdrift etc on the Saturn along with MD racers. I loved Jaguar XJ220 back in the day as it was the first MCD game I ever bought along with Prince of Persia. I bought the games almost a fortnight before the system released, it was such a painful wait. Why the games were being sold so far ahead of the hardware going on sale I will never know.

I managed to play Gran Turismo for a few minutes before falling asleep from boredom.

This generation, I enjoyed Sega Rally Revo and Burnout Paradise. The latter actually has a dlc pack with some sweet 80s cars like the Delorean, KITT and Ghostbusters hearse. I've heard good things about the newer Need for Speed games, but I haven't played one since the 3do. I need to check one of the new ones out.

I've never cared much for 16-bit racers, even BITD. Racing games is one of those genres that really needs decent 3D to be fun; I didn't really start enjoying console racing until the N64 (SF Rush) and later (the Dreamcast was awesome for racing games). I don't go for the sim-style games, but even a good arcade style racers needs 3d.

The exception to that rule, of course, is the top-down racing games (a la Micromachines or Rock'n'Roll Racers). Those can still be fun.

True dat, going from Crazy Cars to Ridge Racer was like suddenly realizing that the racing game genre can be fun!.

I do have a new found appreciation for the pseudo 3D racing genre though, I found a site that explains how its done.
and that's pretty awesome to know, I would love to see a new racer on our trusty Sega Genesis/MD some day.

Maybe a Cannonball Run game, with Burt Reynolds cut scenes?
