Default Classic RTS/Simulation games for PC?

I'm looking for some good classic Real Time Strategy/Simulation games on PC. Stuff similar to Age of Empires, Command & Conquer, Warcraft, etc. that is also freeware. I heard the original C&C games we're freeware, but I can't find them on the official site and heard they removed them to repackage them in a retail download. Any suggestions are welcome.

Also, any good freeware turn-based strategy is welcomed. I already know Battle of Wesnoth, and Falcom's Vantage Master Online and Lord Monarch Online (which are available on their website in english).

My personal favorite BY FAR is Z - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z_(video_game)

You will need Z Expansion XP v1.7 for it to run on Windows XP and up: http://imasters.org.ru/viewtopic.php?pid=379

It's also available on Android & co.: http://www.kavcom.co.uk/category/android/
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.
