Default Sega Genesis: Game Genie Help

I was going to put this in Tech Aid, but it could be better off here. I've got a problem with my Game Genie: when entering the codes with the switch on, I get a red or blank screen. This even applies to games that do not require a master code. If I turn the switch off, enter a code, then turn it on after booting up the game, the codes will work. However, this will be a problem for region-locked games, specifically I mean Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon. When entering the region unlock code with the switch on, again, I'll get a blank screen. With the switch off, I'll get the "only for use in japan" screen even when i use the trick above. What should I do? I paid $63 for an import that I can't even use thanks to my faulty Game Genie!!
P.S. My GG has a black label just so you know.

I just made the game genie code "REWA-A6ZL" for you. Enter the code and start the game with the switch in the "on" position the whole time.

Assuming your game genie works, and I was working on the right sailor moon game, it should let you play the game on any region console.

If it still doesn't work, add the code "7JAT-BM6R" to fix the checksum too.

No luck. I tried both and I got a blank screen each time. I guess I need another Game Genie. Seriously, I think I'm the only person who has that strange problem with one.

Have you tried cleaning the connectors on the top and bottom of the game genie yet? It may just be dirty.

Otherwise, getting a new game genie is your best bet.

    Try this:
    - After entering the Code Start, but leave the switch turned off.
    - if you get the Import error screen, switch the GG on.
    - hit Reset on the console.

If that doesn't Work, you should consider other import methods (like modding the console or getting a Mega Key). When it comes to importing, the Game Genie is a crutch at best anyways.
The funny thing about an oxymoron is, even if you remove the ox, there'll always be a moron. The Question Remains: Y?

A Pro Action Replay 2 solved my region lock-out woes, no codes needed. Just switch to JAP cart in the options screen and you're good to go.

Problem solved! I bought another Game Genie and the game runs perfectly! Sure its no Streets of Rage, but its a neat little game for what it is. Not bad for an import.
