Edit: It wasn't broke I just was stupid and didn't read the manual.

X-perts arrived today, complete with box and manual....like I feared, the boxesī condition is somewhat bad. Damn those cardboard boxes! The highlight was a sticker telling me to "be kind, please rewind" on the back of the box. Dunno how to rewind a cartridge though.

Well, the game is just as terribly bad as I expected. No wonder Sega never bothered to bring this Donkey-Kong-Country-killer to Europe.

Europe didn't need any DKC killer. The Mega Drive outsold the SNES anyway. Why did you buy the game if it was so bad (I assume you knew a little about it beforehand)?

Of course Europe needed one. Europe consists of many countries, some of them were dominated by Sega (UK, Sweden), some by Nintendo. In Europe the SNES began to sell better and better by 1994/1995 while MD was losing ground. There wasnīt a big difference in sales in the end. In Germany the SNES had already outsold the MD easily. DKC was one of the (if not THE) best-selling games of 1994 in Europe, it sold like hot cakes and set a new graphics standard (like Aladdin did a year before); journalists thought it was an Ultra-64-game at first.
Of course Sega had to give an answer to that; they didnīt want that "proof" of the SNESī superiority to draw away more customers.
X-Perts was announced to show the MD could hold up against DKC with itīs pre-rendered graphics. But it was delayed for a long time, and the final result shows why: poor renderings and awefully slow gameplay with super-stiff controls.

I bought it exactly because it was such a big announced A-title to counter DKC. A historical piece of software that failed to achieve itīs goal.

Is this a golf game or a niche porn flick?

According to my sources, the SNES outsold the MD by twice as many units in Sweden. Still, the MD had one million more in Europe. I don't know if it set a new graphic standard. The backgrounds were pretty flat and barely animated IIRC.

    Today's car-boot sale haul:

    x3 Mega Drive II's
    x1 Mega CD II
Dick Tracy, Corporation, Space Harrier II and Sonic.

Nothing too special except the price, Ģ4 for the lot in a box full of random electrical crap.

All are working (although one of the MDIIs wont work with the MCDII)
