He also said, "I've never seen this before" in regards to the fire shield from Sonic 3.

I especially love the conversation about defeating the purpose of springs showing up when you least expect them. Instead of thinking about how to get past them, let's just make them visible early on, and destroy the challenge of it.

I think the fact that James is so bad at video games, makes the AVGN that much funnier, when you think about it. "It's the games that suck, I'm secretly good at these things, I swear!"

Is that Sonic Megamix Genesis game the same or different from the Sega CD Sonic Megamix game?

The widescreen idea is great, and actually implemented in Christian Whitehead's retrosonic engine used in those recent iOS/Android ports of Sonic 1, 2 and CD.
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.

Agreed, I absolutely love the mobile ports.

Android ports of Sonic 1 and 2 (and iOS I guess I don't discriminate) are amazing. Such a clear labour of love when into making those.

Seriously, it's not like we're talking about a ball-breaking difficult game here, where that would ease up an unfair challenge.

James Rolfe has made a career over nitpicking games that aren't really all that difficult so why stop now?

I mean, it's not like you can just spindash the opposite way and remember to jump the second time around.

I could see if they were beginner's traps that instantly ill you but unless you terminally suck at most they should just delay you. In a game that focuses on getting to the end of the stage as quickly as possible having benign traps like this gives you something to memorize as you work to improve your time in the future.

It doesn't take away the fact that Sonic is pretty neat in widescreen though.

Same game but different versions. The last Genesis Megamix is version 3.0; the SCD version is 4.0.

This is why neither of those idiots get views from me. It's youtube personalities like him that make the retro gaming scene a much worse place.

No, it's unbiased analysis. The only fanboyism is people who claim that Hyperstone Heist and Bloodlines are actually as good as their SNES counterparts.
