The "hack and slash" genre is the only current gen genre that hearkens to the 16 bit era outside of the easy money remakes/sequels. Shinobi 3, Chakan, and Strider were hack and slash platformers. Don't sit there and tell me you never played Sword of the Berserk for the Dreamcast. I'm certain you enjoyed that game. If not, give it a try. You'll love it.
I never thought I would ever say this of Nintendo, but I commend them on their efforts regarding Bayonetta 1&2 for the Wii U. That at least tells me that Nintendo is willing to think outside the prepubescent box and attract the more mature demographic. That's plenty more than what stupid clueless Sega is doing for it's fan base.
