It´s not just about youth protection; it´s about that the entire concept of Manhunt is focussed on killing people the most grueling way possible. It is something that hurts the moral rules of the "civilized" (more or less) community in general.
It´s really the first big videogame where I agree on a ban. To this point only perverted underground-software like concentration-camp-managers and stuff like that was so low.

I think the bible and quran hurt the moral rules of the "civilized" community in general, but banning books/movies/games/whatever is just wrong and against democracy. People who go out killing others after consuming that kind of products have something wrong in their heads to begin with. Banning stuff won't save people from doing so, there is too much material to "be inspired" of out already and once they find it, their psychotic minds gives them "voices in their heads". Alcohol has caused so many more deaths than killing games, but that doesn't mean everyone who drinks it kills people and it should be banned, or should it?

The thing is than drinking alcohol as a action himself is not as sick as simulation gruesome murder. It´s not the result of people killing somebody I fear, it´s just that doing this in this disgusting manner in form of a game is somewhat off. It´s like Elusive said about games about raping women-there are limits to what thematics and what actions should be used for a game. We have a lot of bloodshed in FPS too, but at least it´s not so much based upon killing people as brutal as possible. That´s why I am very much for Manhunt 2 being banned, because it tries to attract players mainly by their nether instincts of extraordinary brutality.
Society has to have limits for some things; and Manhunt 2 may be just above the peak of acceptable perversion.

Games are getting more realistic and in ten years time folk will be asking what the fuss was all about - in the same way we raise an eyebrow at the Mortal Kombat controversy. You can watch a movie filled with far worse gore and violence than a video game but there is never a public outcry about that. Some movies even sell themselves on their violent content and still pass by the censors. A movie can have rape, drug abuse, child abuse and scene of torture, however, a patch is created for GTA San Andreas where you can see a nipple and half of America starts bitching. The title of the game "Bully" caused outcries too. Half arsed parents seeing video games as a media for children.

I almost agree. There's this outcry about the game receiving an AO rating, yet it deserves it. Especially on the Wii. However, I think the censorship that Sony and Nintendo are enforcing is wrong. I think the ban on AO rated games actually lessens the image of Video Games as a legitimate form of entertainment. We see (though we don't act) torture in movies like Hostile and Saw, why is Manhunt any different? Is it because video games are still viewed as childish?

No. Video games are not the same thing as a movie: in a movie you can fast-forward through all the red stuff. In Manhunt 2, you use the Wiimote and nunchuck to wrap a garotte around someone's neck. Then there's the whole 'sawing into someone's nutsack' thing.

Summary: you are forced into performing violent acts by violent videogames as a part of the game, whereas a film is non-interactive. It's an actor playing the villain, not you.

besides, i hate to play this card but videogames are not 'art' the way movies can get away with being 'art'

So a person buying this game is being "forced"? I disagree. What about children who play cops and robbers? How is that so different from playing this game?

I'm not arguing because I love Manhunt, quite the opposite, I thought the original sold on controversy alone. But I completely disagree with the type of censorship we're not only seeing oversees, but enforced by Nintendo and Sony as well.
