Bioware have made some excellent games. In the late 90s they made me realise how much better western RPGs can be compared to a lot of the shallow, linear and non-roleplaying j-rpg stuff.. but also a lot more time consuming.

I'm not sure what to think about this one, sounds like it would never work. The Sonic universe just isn't very interesting, especially not recently.

Yea, they would really have to expand the Sonic universe for this to be a truly epic RPG. I just do not have high hopes for this game. Why are they making it for the DS? Why not the Wii?

One of my favourite things about the Sonic universe is its lack of continuity - no single central canon means more stories can come of the zillion little vague concepts and sidestories. Pretty much the only accepted canon, open-and-shut story in the series is Shadow's awakening and vengeance (SA2), and his redemption (Shadow the Hedgehog).

Take Knuckles. He has Jamaican dreads and coloured shoes, his speech is American, the Echidna race in Sonic Adventure were vaguely Mayan, and yet echidnas are an Australian species.

Why not the Xbox? Why not the Nintendo 64DD? Why anything?

I've always seen the Sonic universe as having a multiplicity of continuities. And aside from that, it has a lot of unrelated games that could fit into any and all of them. I've always wondered if Sega would ever try to retcon them all together. I hope this Sonic RPG isn't going to be some sort of retconning project.

Just for fun, let me see about listing the continuities:

-Genesis games (Sonic through Sonic and Knuckles)
-Some of the Game Gear games.
    -Sonic CD
    -Sonic Adventure and Sonic Battle
-SA2, Shadow the Hedgehog, and perhaps Sonic Heroes
    -SatAM / Archie Comics
-Other TV shows over the years

I believe the Sonic Advance games and Sonic Rush are standard enough that they could be side stories in any of the continuities. The same goes for Sonic 3D Blast / Flickie's Island. Hmm. I'm probably missing some.
