Same Joypads. (except for some internal changes on the pcb)

Also I'd like to state that I consider these the best Joypads that I've ever had the pleasure of using,
I own builds for the Snes and the Saturn.

Best pad ever, its sturdy and the D-pad to me felt like heaven compared to the original 3 button MD pad. (yes the very very first one, not the one you got with your MD2)

The buttons are just right, and the programmable L & R buttons work great with games that require the pressing of more then one A/B/C/Y/Y/Z button.

Would it have been even better if you could have programmed D-Pad motions? sure, but all the pads that allow for that lack the amazing feel of this one.

so yeah, imo the best pad ever, which is why I'm converting 4 of them for my supergun (4 player nba jam baby).
Retirement? Retirement is for wimps! When I hit 65 years of age, I'll be working until my ticker stops working or until I get the pink slip and am forced out!

I sure don't think you're above the above the age of 65! Show me your birth certificate so I can verify your age! And while your at it, I would appreciate if you could post a picture of your dentures too! You have a tendency to gab alot so I figured that you had all your teeth.

Anyways, thanks for partaking in the discussion and providing additional information with respect to the controllers. Among the third party controllers I own, I enjoy using the Super pad by Performance. While it lacks the bells and whistles of the Propad 2 or 6, it still quite responsive.

    marlowe221,
Judging from the pic, I suspect that the Propad 2 / 6 are just a tad smaller (maybe by a millimeter or two) compared to the official 6 button controllers lengthwise. But widthwise it appears that the controller is slightly bigger to accomodate the programmable buttons. The other benefit that I can see is that the X, Y, and Z button (top row) are bigger than the 6 button controller.

When time avails itself, I'm sure either that Tony H or NeoVamp will take the time to respond to your enquity. NeoVamp seems to be in a melancholy mood (Snap outof it you old goat! ) but I'm sure he'll be back in form in the new year!

If you want a good third party auto-fire 6 button pad, I recommend the Competition Pro Series III. Built like a tank:

Here are some comparison shots with a official 3 button.

At their widest they are pretty much the same but the propad6 feels smaller in the hands. I'll do some more comparison shots with an official 6 button later. I'll also try to get some actual measurements.

Forgive the dirty propad. I picked up two of them from my local used game store for $2.95 each and haven't done anything with them yet besides verify functionality. The both need a serious cleaning. When I saw them there I thought "hey that's the controller in NeoVamps signature, I'm going to pick those up."

Thanks for the size comparison shots - that really helps a lot!

Does anyone know what company made this controller? I just received one as part of a lot and it seems to work quite well.

Interact made it, as I recall. I used to have one, but I don't know what the hell happened to it.

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but there's also a Saturn version called the Eclipse Pad.

You know what, I was JUST about to ask about that same controller - my official 6-button took a dump and I picked that one up for cheap at a comic store to replace it. I like it a lot, the size and shape remind me a lot of the official one and the buttons all feel really solid.

Ironically, before that one I'd been using a SG ProPad 6 and I wanted to also come sing its praises. It's honestly the nicest third-party controller I'd ever owned for a 16-bit system, and that's coming from a guy with his share of weirdass Genny and SNES controllers. The buttons and plastic are all solid, the d-pad is surprisingly comfortable, and I've never bothered with the programming but it was my go-to CDX controller for a very long time - despite the CDX lot I bought coming with a real Sega controller as well. If anyone's looking for a replacement 6-button, I'd recommend either of these easily.

I've got the slightly modified version that has independent turbo switches, moves the mode button to the shoulder and has a slowdown function on the back (not that anyone cares about that). This one is the same size as the official 3-button. It's the controller I use the most these days because I prefer the size to the official 6-button.

    That's the Competition Pro SG-18.
The major advantage it has compared to most of the other controllers is that its MODE button is rubber-based instead of using that clickable mechanism which tends to break after a X amount clicks and that X is actually a pretty reachable number if you play games which use MODE as an action button.
