Very cool! Thank you!
Very cool! Thank you!
Could you do Mortal Kombat II from the 32x?
thank you very much!
it is incredible how different this sounds from the emulators
by the way, I am surprised with After Burner 32x, such a great quality !!
Great effort, thanks.
Please may I request: Batman Returns.
(It DOES have a sound test screen)
If you want a copy of Road Rash 2 to record, or accept other people's submissions, I'd be open for that one. I don't have such a fancy Genesis, but it is a VA6.
Thank you for all your hard work! Unfiltered rips sound great.
I however can hear some ground feedback in some of the quiet parts of music. When I tried to record from my Genny VA1 I faced the same problem. In my case disconnecting the TV prior recording helped me to totally eliminate it. Have you tried to disconnect your TV before recording?
On a side note - I would like to request a rip from Side Pocket![]()
I tried a few different things to reduce noise. Unplugging from the TV was one thing I did, which sometimes reduced noise/hum, but didn't eliminate it. Different AC adapters also seemed to have a small impact.
I also noticed that using different cables had a lot of effect on noise. Some were crap, and some were great. Cables came and went, but I always tried each one I had on hand to try and find the least noisy of them. I might be able to cut down on noise a bit more by using really high quality cables and RCA adapters. But, as it was when doing the recordings, I just had to experiment with all my different cables and adapters to try and find the best combination.
Another thought is my PC. I'm only using the on-board audio recording of my motherboard. A lot of people like to shit on on-board audio, but on-board audio is much better these days than it used to be. Still, the inputs might not be as well shielded as with a dedicated sound card. I've recorded other things using these inputs without noise or feedback issues though, but it's a thought.
It might also be that the mod job on my Genesis wasn't 100% perfect. The Genesis I use has the mega amp, an s-video mod, and RCA jacks on the back. There might be something in there causing extra noise, especially with all the extra wires in there. However, I still got some feedback/noise when recording from my stock model 1 (also unplugged from my TV), so I think a lot of factors could be contributing to it.

Hey, thanks for the answer. I've actually read through the whole topic and saw a epic war here around soundcards. Yep, getting rid of such a noise is a real PITA. I however really doubt your mod is culprit. I also don't think it's an onboard soundcard. You can easily test it by swapping out the pc. The nature of noise shall change in that case. If that's the recording equipment anyway.
Oh, and also, if you're still accepting requests, I'd like to add to already mentioned Side Pocket soundtracks of Earthworm Jim 2 and Top Gear 2![]()

Yep, I'm still accepting requests. Sort of. I'm adding requests to a list I have saved, but I'm not really recording anything right now. I would like to soon. The biggest thing is storage. I'm hosting all of the music from home on my web site now, instead of another site like mega, or rapidshare. The files are all stored on a 64GB USB drive, which is totally full. I'll probably end up getting an external HDD, or just getting a hard drive enclosure and reusing some old SATA drive that I probably have laying around. I'll also probably want to get a few more more 3.5mm stereo cables together so that I can figure out which one is the least noisy.

I have found with the noise that my modded model 1 va2 doesn't produce much if any noise on most games when I've recorded the audio. But some games, especially earlier ones like AB2 or Golden Axe, do produce some line noise. So something in the carts can cause this as well that will change from game to game.
The second thing I noticed is that no matter what game is used, if I have my 32x attached, there is always audio ground noise that can be heard. So recording the audio from one game straight off the genesis cartridge port might be clean, but then through the 32x there is noise. I've just accepted this since I usually leave my 32x attached at all times regardless.
So if you do happen to have your 32x attached as I see some of the songs you've done were 32x games, then try some of the stock Genesis games from your RCA jacks without the 32x attached and see if it makes a difference? BTW...where are you pulling the audio from on your RCA jacks? The headphone jack pcb or directly from the output lines on the 1034? That does make a big difference.
If money is an issue (not just time) and you wanna make a wishlist I could send some of those things your way for this project. I have extra very nice SATA -> USB enclosures and drives, also cables and other stuff. Lots of 3.5mmm type stuff too (I'm an amateur musician so got a lot laying around).
Also...CAN WE STICKY THIS THREAD please? took me 4 searches to find it...lol.
Great work!!!!

Just wanted to say thanks for going to such time and effort recording some classic Mega Drive games in the way they were meant to be be heard.
I'm listening to Sonic 3D now and it's stunning how clear and vibrant the audio is. You're doing important work to preserve these great games!![]()
That would be really awesome! I have a 160GB drive and 320GB SATA drive from old PCs sitting around that would be perfect. I know the 160GB drive works, and I need to test the 320. Either one would be a good upgrade to the current 64GB storage. It would be really easy to put either drive in an enclosure and plug it into my server, which hosts the music downloads.
Thank you very much, I'll send you a PM if you're still interested.
Sorry for being slow to reply.
Thank you! Check out the 16-bit audiophile project too! They put out great stuff.

I had been out of space on my server for some time. Big thanks to segasonicfan for sending me a SATA hard drive enclosure, which I used to convert an old 160GB hard drive to USB. This way I could use it in my Raspberry Pi server. There should be room for around 100 more albums.

^ Good to hear about upgrades made to your server.
Keep up the good work. Not a fan of unfiltered recordings, but they are still miles better than emulator recordings which makes ~80% of recordings of Gen/MD games in YouTube.
