No, it's not a hoax, if you see me on other forums, you'll see i'm still figuring out how to interface this IC..
I got an IC that decodes FM radio, AND HD Radio (Hybrid Digital). It runs on a single-chip design, making it a pretty "decent" radio, but not the best...
So, what do I want to do with this IC? Put it on a Genesis/MD cartridge, and make the Genesis be an FM and HD radio.
What goes on the TV? A virtual radio interface. Sadly, im limited to what the IC can do, which isn't very customizable.. anything else has to be emulated on the genesis (like FM channel scanning)..
How will it get interfaced? I don't know yet, I'm asking other developers how they think I should do it, as it has address lines, which is weird for something that's not memory or a CPU...
How will the audio get into the Genesis? The cartridge connector has audio pass-through.. don't know if the 32X passes the audio though, as it has it's own audio chip using those lines..
Audio samples of the IC? sure, here's some directly captured audio samples of the IC getting HD radio signals from my local radio station (NOT ON A GENESIS---ON A TEST BOARD)...

As you can hear, it's HD-Radio isn't the best, sounds more like streamed internet stuff to be honest, but it does get the signals...
Oh, and for those wanting to follow along with developer talk about this chip, see my thread here: http://www.spritesmind.net/_GenDev/f...opic.php?t=197
I get into detail there, about the chip, and what I found from reverse engineering it..
I plan to start working on this tomorrow, but I don't know for sure, I mean, I still need to know how to interface it with the GenesisAND ask on the devstar forum, if their BASIC compiler can work (to make programming this thing easy) for it..
