Default I recapped my Genesis and now the sound is worse!

I replaced all the capacitors in my VA6 and the sound is much more distorted. The audio has started to distort my video as well. I double checked the values, orientation and connections several times. The RGB is actually brighter and crisper than before. I use a custom Scart cable that does not transfer audio at all. I instead use the headphone jack for audio because when I had the scart audio connected, I would get image distortion when there was music/sound. Separating the video and audio seemed to fix it before the recap.

I hope its not a bad capacitor because I have no way of knowing meaning I would have to order a whole new cap kit and start completely over. The image distortion seems like it could be a bad ground somewhere.

So, first, eliminate all extra stuff - get rid of the SCART connector and use a standard AV cable to see what the audio and video look like through there. If it's the same, and the video is getting noticably brighter, then start checking the caps around the 1145 first, then around the audio circuitry second. I'd start by just checking to make sure there's something going through the capacitor in terms of voltage to eliminate the possibility of a cold/broken solder joint. I'd also check the voltage levels of the RGB and Composite lines coming out of the 1145 - make sure they're around 1-2V (the exact number escapes me but that's the range they usually fall in when I check).

Also - can you explain the method in which you removed the caps? Like a step by step description? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. As far as removing the old caps, I simply just melted the solder and gently pulled them out with pliers or my hands trying not to damage the pcb or the surrounding components. Thanks for the suggestion or checking the voltage in each one to make sure the connection is solid. If that doesn't give me any hints as to what's wrong, then I will have to check capacitance each individually. I also could have some messy soldier somewhere. Just not looking forward spending another 4 hours or so tearing it all apart again.

Just checked the voltage on the caps and C30 had zero volts across it and C31 had .02v while all the other caps has close to 4-5v each. I checked C30/C31 and the tolerance is with in 20% so at least I know they aren't duds. I even completely removed the solder from the joints and flowed new solder to make sure the connection was solid but the voltages never changed. I wonder if C30 is inactive until something triggers that circuit? Looks like I still have more digging to do.

The problem has been fixed. I touched up the solder at every joint that looked potentially suspicious on the entire board and also bought a new power adapter. One of those fixed it or both together did.

I'm no electrician, but I doubt a power adapter can cause distorted sound, so I guess the resoldering helped you.
