I do appreciate that companies have bothered to port real games to mobile devices, but I do wish they'd also *make* games up to those standards. There are some, mainly on iOS (Android is a cesspit), but the vast majority is garbage.
With a monstrously large market, tons of developers and 8 years of time, mobile gaming can't even compete with the PC Engine library if we ignore old game ports.
That's pretty sad.
I feel sad that Queen's Crown is taken down but shit is left to fester on the App Store.

What is a Konami? A miserable little pile of gaming apps.

Theres a sprinkling of fun, original titles on mobiles. Some are those dreaded 'casual' games people love to hate whilst forgetting Pac-Man is awesome and has about 5 minutes worth of gameplay too.
Sadly app store or whatever you wanna call it has zero quality control so yeah, good luck navigating the maze to find the gold.
I play games on my Android all of the time. I use to have a Vita but I had to pawn due to a shitty ex gf. With that being said you can find quality games on the Android and not all of them have shitty touch screen controls. Xcom plays extremely well with touch screen controls. KOTOR is very playable with touch screen controls though the swoop racing and Ebon Hawks fight sequences are terrible with touch. I bought Konami's X-Men and yes it is terrible with touch controls and I don't think it has moga support either. The GTA games are also pretty good though I am not a huge fan of those games. I try to avoid the freemium and go for shit that I have to pay a few bucks for. I hate how Square charges an arm and a leg for some of their mobile games . 15.99 for FF whatever uhm no thanks.
I think practices in mobile gaming are terrible, but you can't turn and point the finger to condemned all mobile games. There are some really good paid to play apps at a low price that deliver a good experience. I wouldn't consider a replacement to console gaming, but supplement for when you don't have anything else. You'll always have your phone. I just think people that never cared to play games, tries them and its a totally new market as well that is alot bigger than people that would go out and purchase a box to play games on.
That being said, Konami investing in mobile just makes sense but you don't put all your eggs in one basket. They aren't going to be leaving the console space, they will continue to make Metal Gear related games and most likely other franchises in the future. Though people pretending that its their fault for not having another Metroidvania Castlevania or Silent Hill. Those franchise have been selling terrible, even on DS the Castlevania games continued to sell less and less. As for Silent Hill the franchise was killed by bad game releases, which isn't surprising.
I'm not too shocked that Silent Hills was cancelled, you just got to see how much other 'Survival Horror' games have been selling. SEGA did 2.1 million so far with Isolation with a big license, Evil Within was around that range (3 million?). How much do you think Konami was going to spend on a Hollywood director, actor and Hideo Kojima himself making this title? You also have to consider that Hideo has long ass development cycles.
Instead they can take that money and develop like 150 mobile app games in a year with smaller teams, if one of them is a big success it will bring in millions monthly, excusing all the other failures that didn't stick. Sadly mobile is cheaper entry and more to gain and while people whine that these companies don't want money, you have to see how badly even some good traditional games are selling. Times be changing and Japanese developers need more talented studios to make new IPs with new ideas instead of relying on old ideas .
