Chris Rea: absolutely perfect for listening to when it's 3:30AM and it's raining outside. That man can sing.

I go into periods where I pretty much only listen to 1 genre for a few weeks then switch to something else. Right now it's Goatrance, used to be Techno a few weeks back, before that it was Jazz, Funk and Disco/House.

Those are everyone's favorite 3 songs from that album... probably because they are the ONLY good songs. I wish the album didn't sound like it was recorded on a standard cassette player and dubbed down 30 generations with extra hiss added each time. The sound quality is really bad. Did you know that Ys IV for the PC Engine CD-ROM has boss music that has the same exact melody as one of those tunes? I've also heard the same melody in other places, but can't quite recall where.

This is going to be hard, as I listen to damn near everything. I'll go ahead and do the whole band/album thing.

Phish - Hampton Comes Alive (6-disc live goodness)
Led Zeppelin - BBC Sessions (The Girl I Love She Got Long Black Wavy Hair) (No, seriously, my girlfriend has long black wavy hair.)
    The Who - Who's Next
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here or Meddle (I can't decide!)
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick
The Beatles - The White Album
David Bowie - Man of Words/Man of Music/Space Oddity
String Cheese Incident - Atlanta 10/21/2005
The Flaming Lips - Transmissions From the Satellite Heart (Closely followed by Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots)
Architecture in Helsinki - Fingers Crossed
Get Him Eat Him - Geography Cones
model a - angry hippo EP
Kansas - Point of No Return (Damn fine album.)
Arthur Yoria - I'll Be Here Awake
    Brad Sucks - I Don't Know What I'm Doing
    Drop Trio - Big Dipper
The Fiery Furnaces - Blueberry Boat (Which is, in fact, one of the best damn albums I've ever listened to.)
The Decemberists - Picaresque (I wanted to say the Tain. I really did. But it's only 20 minutes long.)
Strong Bad - Strong Bad Sings (Totally worth it for the live version of Everybody to the Limit (Come on fhwqwgads))
i, cactus - i, cactus (I don't listen to much electronic music, but this is just...relaxing.)
Jupiter Sunrise - Under a Killer Blue Sky
The Postal Service - Give Up (Again, I don't listen to much electronic music, but it's good.)
Moody Blues - A Night at the Red Rocks
Pro Audio - Saturday We're Even

A note: Pro Audio is one of the best damn bands I've ever, EVER listened to. Their first album is completely free for the download. Check 'em out at http://www.proaudioband.com

They Might Be Giants - No!
Trocadero - Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue

Aaand that's all I can think of for now.

Wait, I'll also list my favorite video game soundtracks.
    Jet Set Radio
    Jet Set Radio Future
Sonic Rush (Hideki Naganuma is a god of music and insanity.)
    Skies of Arcadia (Duh.)
    Grandia
    Grandia II
    Final Fantasy Tactics
    Final Fantasy IV
    Final Fantasy VI
    Drill Dozer
    Xenogears
    Xenosaga
    Star Ocean: The Second Story
    Super Mario RPG
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
    Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga

...and probably more I can't think of right now. I'll post 'em later if I think of them.

Edit: Damn I listen to a lot of music. Sorry for the long post.

Haha, actually, I rather enjoy the entire album, but those three songs are quite the universally popular favourites as you said. Yngwie's choice in vocalist has always been a little, oh.. extremely overwrought & bloody cheesy, so the instrumentals have always been the strongest songs. I've never taken offense at the sound quality of the album.. it's a bit dead and muffled, I suppose, but no more than many comparable albums from the era. The sound quality is much livelier on other Yngwie albums, but the compositions on ol' Rising Force were never topped, at least not by the single-minded shredder himself, a man doomed forever to an eternity of thinking it's still 1984.

By the way, interesting tidbit about the ripping off of Far Beyond The Sun... I could swear I'd read about a similar incident elsewhere involving zany Malmsteen.
