Default Do you collect sports games

Sports games on all systems are regarded as shovelware and have little to no demand with no resale value.

I have some obsession where If I see a CIB genesis game for $2 or under with a nice case that I buy it if not just for the case. So I have acquired many sports games and the only ones I like to play are boxing and hockey.

I'm not sure what to do with them. I been getting them thinking maybe ill go for a complete genesis collection but now I have a bunch taking space and don't really have interest in playing them. At the same time selling them offers so little trade credit that I'd rather let them occupy their space.

I may try taking the baseball, golf, football titles and trading them for boxing games in the trades section. The doubles I'm thinking of using for contests to get subscribers to my youtube channel. But I don't want a bunch of freeloaders subbed to me either. I want people who appreciate the content.

What do you guys do with your sports games? I mean if you half like half a dozen of each surely you don't play them all.

One game I'd love to get is mutant hockey but I would only be hopping on the bandwagon as its already gotten popular and expensive when it used to not be.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY want 100% CIB copies of Toughman contest and Muhammad Ali's Heavyweight Boxing. I just can't bring myself to pay FMV retail ebay prices for them. Which I don't think is fair. Tons of those copies are sitting among piles of sports games for $1-2 CIB.

    Not really.

I did to go hastings a few months ago and bought a bunch. They had Madden 92, 93, 94, 95, and 96 CIB. Some were $.99 and some were $1.99. I decided to buy them up.
I'll also buy some of the less serious sports games. I got mutant league football and NBA jam at my local retro store for $1.49 each. I'll also buy racing games. I don't usually count them as sports games, but I know other people do.

I have about 20 or so. Most of them I enjoy; some of them I just bought for their boxes; all of them were too cheap to pass up. I'll buy pretty much any Genesis baseball game as long as the price is right, as I love all of them. The Maddens are just too charmless for me to bother with, but I love going for the more obscure sports games that no one knows about, as they're generally cheap, even if the quality varies. I have golf, football, basketball, and hockey games just to have a variety.

My local Goodwill just got in a shipment of boxed Genesis sports games, but they're pricing them at $5 a piece, which is

What are these 'sports' games you speak of?

Swap around "most" and "some", and mine would read:

Tennis games, yes, and I play them a lot too. Baseball games, occasionally. Most other sports, no.

BTW we've got 45 Genesis sports games left to defeat, and a bunch of PAL and Mega CD titles as well, so if anyone really wants to get their sport fix...

I don't particularly care for sports games unless they're "arcadey" like NBA Jam and Super Baseball 2020 or have unique twists to them like the RPG elements in Mario Tennis/Golf for the GBC and World Class Tennis for Turbografx-16

Sure I do. I don't go out of my way to get them, but I will definitely pick them up if I come across some. I think a lot of people seem to forget that sports games are still games lol. They count towards a collection for sure. Not to mention a ton of them are really a good time with friends. If you have a bunch of sports games thnm do what I do. I have some buddies come over sometimes and we will grab all the baseball games or basket ball games or whatever I have of one sport and give them a play. Find out which ones you like and don't. Discuss them and compare them. Just have a good time with them.

If they are cheap enough I will pick them up. I do not seek them out per say.

I only keep games I like and I don't collect to completion. But if they are 2 bucks or so I won't pass them up and keep the ones I like and sell the ones I don't.
I do have a lot of sports games for the Genesis. I enjoy them and never understood the shovelware or looking down on attitude they receive from collectors. I think that's mostly Nintendo fanboys anyway. Heck, I'd rather own NHL '94 which I'd play than a coveted by collectors RPG title which I would never play.

It's just minorities within minorities really. The internet is where people who aren't into popular things can have a discussion of those things, because most of the people they know aren't interested in the same things(like outdated video games ). So it feels like it's reversed because of the other anonymous geeks that make up a given online community.

The other half of it is that sports are hated because Madden(and the other "enemy," Call of Duty) flies off store shelves instead of RPG X, and fans of RPG X are annoyed about it, and will keyboard in their opinions in whatever online communities they can.

    On topic:
If I were a collector, I'd definitely go for the Mutant Leagues.

My main dislike with the Genesis sports games is aesthetic. I don't like the plain, black and white spines used in the Madden, NHL, and NBA series. The overall design is pretty bland and I just don't like how they look, so I put most of the EA sports games by themselves on a bottom shelf. But that's just me being picky.

I only have sports games which offer something unique about it. I played Madden a lot as a kid, and some other ones, but lately I do not feel as if they make great video games. I find myself not wanting to play them. I ended up just about giving away all of what I owned, except the following (excluding racing games and Pilotwings):

    NBA Jam TE (Genesis)
WWF: Royal Rumble (Genesis, nostalgia trip!)
    Windjammers (NGCD)
    Mario Golf (N64 and GBC)
    Mario Tennis (N64 and GBC)
    Virtua Tennis (DC)
NBA Street/NBA Street Vol. 2 (both on PS2)
Wii Fit, Sports, and Sports Resort (all mostly kept because of my wife)

I never owned the Mutant League games, but I hear the gameplay just isn't that great. And they're not cheap now, so I probably won't pick them up any time soon. I really ought to pick up some football game, because I actually think I'd prefer to play that (strategy game and all), but I distinctly remember not liking Madden 08, and I'm not sure about where before it is that sweet spot, a game that has the best look-to-play ratio. Maybe 04 again? The old early 90s Maddens didn't strike the nostalgia chord that I thought they would.

I GAVE IN TO THE DEVIL says bobby boucher

After seven years of collecting I bought a game on ebay. I know shame me.

I paid $8 shipped for 100% all inserts tough man contest. Which is still a bit pricey. I got it by messaging the seller and asking if they would drop price politely and if they do send offer if they don't on my way. I do that a lot actually because I never win auctions and never even bought a game to begin with as BIN as I never really saw or thought IMO they were deals. I had very good luck getting my collecting from the wild. I love just saying that rather then ebay. Though my best find was from facebook so don't how much better that is then ebay. But the rest from flea markets and stores.

I don't know if I'm the fool or not for paying $8 dollar for a fully cib tough man contest but butter bean was standing on someones head on the cover and I like boxing.

I wouldn't have felt bad paying that. Its a really fun game. Maybe a little too much, but I wouldn't beat yourself up over it. Considering you paid for convenience it isn't too absurd.
