Xb Original XBox HDD Game Compatibility

So, true to my usual form this is a cry for help thread, I have Googled the arse off this all day. I don't use this system as much as I'd like due to space issues, but have managed to place Panzer Dragoon Orta onto the HDD a couple of years back (XBMC dashboard, bigger HDD and DVD2Xbox app used) with complete success.

I tried the same with DooM 3 LCE today. The disc ran well up until the intro movie after the Activision logo, where it skipped and had to be shut down; I switched the system off and rebooted. After this I installed it using first another app (PX HDD Loader) by mistake. As it went elsewhere on the HDD and wouldn't appear along side PDO I deleted it and reinstalled it using DVD2XBox. All seemed well, the game then would not load past the Activision screen, after it disappeared I got two green pillarboxes and a black screen in the centre.

The game disc now also does this, and won't boot any further, so I assume it's a disc issue. It looks perfect, but I gave it a real good buff with my usual fixing method that always works for me (Brasso and a homemade buffing pad in my power drill). No joy again from the disc or a further attempt at HDD installation. The same green and black screen.

Another game disc (some hockey title) loaded fine, so I assume it's the DooM 3 disc. I bought another for cheap and am waiting on its delivery.

TL / DR: Can Doom 3 LCE run on a softmodded oXBox HDD? Are there any compatibility issues known?

Thankyou all again, and sorry for the text wall!

Are you trying to play the game in 720p or above? Some games refuse to load in HD from the HDD, due to piracy protection. Either that, or try deleting any D3 saves you might have.

I don't think so on the 720p, but I'll check in my options when I set up next. Are the D3 saves those in the cache (on my E Drive)? Thanks for the reply.

I've personally never had a game outright not load to a playable state from the HDD, but I've got one that's buggy (Steel battalion). But I have no idea if that's due to the custom bios loaded or running from the HDD.
Alas I don't have Doom3 to even attempt. But mine is also not softmodded, so it wouldn't be a like-like comparison anyways.

Cleeg, I have a copy of Doom 3 - no promises, but if I can, I'll install the game on one my Xboxes and post back the results tomorrow. As for your question regarding the save file, yes, it should be in the UDATA folder on the E partition. But it's easier if you just delete the file/s from the Original dashboard.

Yep. I have this on two different systems with no problems. I didn't use any copying program, I just manually copied the files over with the file browser in UnleashX. Put it on the second machine (which had a dead DVD drive) via files FTP'd from my PC.

Thankyou all for the help, it's appreciated as always. I'll post how I get on when the new copy arrives. I had a similar issue with Burnout 3 on PS2, the game would install to HDD but would not get past the splash screen. On looking at the disc there is the tiniest chip or nick from the outer edge of the metal foil inside; itmust be a manufacturer's fault. Some discs just won't play I suppose.

Managed to get this sorted, the new disc and the HDD dump work, but the HDD really stop / starts and misses audio occasionally. Is this normal? Are there any settings I should alter in the XBMC menu? What I've seen of the game is nice, great graphics and atmosphere.

Thanks for all the help so far.

XBMC really isn't the best dashboard to load games from. Try messing around with the settings in UnleashedX and then launch the game from there, though I still don't think it will help, sadly.

Now that I think about it, I haven't seen exhaustive info about HDD game compatibility on Xbox.

Cheers, I managed to get it working better by deleting and reinstalling from a backup I made. Not perfect but way better. It even exhibited some of the same problems when being played from that disc so it could be an issue with my console perhaps.
