Did this game get an US release? All I recall from back in the day was DOS/3do/SNES/Game Gear. When I do searches online, all I see are "Mega Drive" versions.

I'm almost certain that it did. I'm sure I've seen the box with the Genesis logo on it somewhere. The marketing hype about that game in the mid 90's before it's release was hilarious. It was meant to be the future...oh dear! Has any game before or since been so hyped up only for the final product to be virtually unplayable? The only infamous example I can think of would be E.T on the Atari 2600 in the early 80's but in that games defense it was programmed in only five weeks!
Bowlsey, are you sure you aren't mixing up that memory with the Game Gear version?
I remember this game. I 100% it on DOS with all the characters. Have zero want to play it again.
Hmmm perhaps, but I feel sure that I've seen a red Genesis box of Rise of the Robots somewhere. Because of the ridiculous hype before it's release I just assumed that it had been released worldwide but if my memory is faulty US Genesis owners needn't worry, they aren't missing anything that's for sure! The game was universally panned on it's release.
Oh weird, I had no idea that it didn't come out in the USA.
Huh, I guess you're right, somehow I hadn't realized that... Rise of the Robots released in the US on the PC, 3DO, Game Gear, and SNES, but not Genesis. Odd. In Europe the game released on Amiga, Amiga CD32, CD-i, SNES, and Game Gear (and maybe not PC or 3DO? Not sure about that). And in Japan they seem to have gotten only the SNES version and that's it.
The sequel Rise 2: Resurrection released on both PS1 and Saturn in all three regions, though.
I thought I was getting a good deal when someone gave me this game for free.
Fuck that guy.
