Just curious if anyone else feels the same way? I have recently been tagged as a Nintendo fanboy; so I am going to take this opportunity to say that Warsong is better then any nes/snes game ever made!!! Lance is a mega-dick, but that doesn't change the fact that this game rulez!!! Ive played Der LAngrisser on my snes, but find that version of a sequel dog poop. Warsong is da bomb!! if it were an actual woman; I would propose to it

I remember playing this game the night I wrote to my would-be first girlfriend, via an online dating site. The first few messages I wrote back right away, but then the game got so exciting so I waited a bit with replying, so she sent another message "Did I write something bad?" .

Excellent game and the sequel, Langrisser 2, is even better IMO. Der Langrisser is a pseudo-port of Langrisser 2 that changed a ton of stuff, so you might still like the original.

I can understand that feeling, both Warsong and Langrisser 2 (especially the former, since it's the subject of this thread) are really great tactical RPGs, it doesn't lag behind Intelligent Systems games or even the library of late Quest, all of them around the time both games were released. Really good gem.

I also LOVE Warsong. I'd rent it every weekend from my local video store for about 2 months before I could beat it with zero problems. Awesome game. I personally like it even more than Shining Force but I'm in the minority.

Warsong is a better game then Shining Force in both challenge and story. I remember replaying the thieve scenario over and over to see what I could do different to save Baldarof's life. In the manual it showed a pic with him alive in a later stage (must have been from while they were developing). I almost cry every time he takes that arrow for Garrett So many good characters in this game!!!! Any time my brother and I would be in an argument I would always tell him he was being like Lance the dick!!! What was up Lance's ass to always feel the end to mess with my crew? Anyone out there have a copy of Langrisser 2 for sale to a big fan? I spent $50 for Der Langrisser on the snes, and it just falls so short to Warsong that I have yet to be able to play thru it.

miked: Langrisser II is very cheap and easy to get at any site which sells Japanese Mega Drive games.

On the question of Shining Force or Langrisser...

Big Z- Ive often contemplated Langrisser 2 from Japan, but I cant read Japanize (I find it hard to believe that people from Japan are capable of reading it as well And because the story is so epic, I would like to be able to enjoy it on the second. As for just the debate which is better- Of course ideally you must own both; but that's no fun. Get off the fence and pick a side!!!! The share number of troops you control in Warsong compared to SF makes for intense battles!!! I think you can have up 7,000+ troops and generals to command at one time Talk about action!! Add the enjoyment of putting the smack down on that jerk-off Lance.....pure video game bliss!!!! Shining Force doesn't give you anyone to really hate the way Warsong builds your relationship with Sir Lance. The writing in Warsong (although super cheesey) gives each character a personality. Many of the SF members are just kinda there. Included the protagonist!! What fun is that??? Ok, it is still fun, but I seriously would marry Sabra if she were real.....some reason she never returns my texts;( I love u Sabra, where ever u are............call me!!!

miked: Here is what you should do. Get a flashcart, for example an Everdrive, and play the English translation-patched ROM of Langrisser II on it. Also get an original Japanese copy of the game just because that kinda makes playing the ROM legal (in reality, only a ROM you made yourself from your own cart is legal, but that's too troublesome to be bothering with).

Agreed, Langrisser series has awesome characters. The music is also fantastic. What I like about Shining Force is the cool battle sequences and that you can explore. On Langrisser it's only the battles and some menus in between them. Still, I love both, won't pick one!

I don't know about flash carts....just not a big fan of anything but the real deal. I guess I would consider maybe purchasing one that already had all the games loaded up on it for convenience. I truly love slamming my sega games into my genesis a couple times til they boot up. Maybe Im a sicko....but I kinda enjoy the trial and error u get with older cartridges. The old pull an blow an pop it back in...the feeling you get when you finally get that stubborn bitch of a cart to work!!!! She keeps saying no, no, no. And I insist and persuade her with some alcohol, a q tip, and a slam from the top!!

I'm the same. All my games are the original physical cartridges and CD's, no emulations for me thanks. There's nothing like giving a stubborn cartridge a good old blow to get it to boot up and give in to your gaming desires.

When it comes to fan-made English translations of hundreds of great impirts, there's literally no original version for stubborn collectors to play. So the only alternative for you to experience a huge chunk of the best 16-bit games is to learn Japanese. At least after all the years and money you'll have spent studying to kinda understand games, you can take pride in knowing that you didn't spend a fraction of that time playing simply playing the same games and fully appreciating them in English on a phony flashcart, no matter how often you have to blow into it to believe it's helping to make them work.

Yeah, learning Japanese is another option. I'm actually doing both. But studying Japanese takes a lot of time and patience, so I will play fan-translations on my flash cart for quite some time still.

I only collect PAL Mega Drive and Mega CD games. I'm well aware of the many Japanese games that never got released in the west and of the games released in America that we didn't get here in the UK either but that doesn't bother me. I enjoy reading about them and watching footage of them but I certainly wouldn't go to the extent of attempting to learn Japanese in order to play the games that never saw the light of day over here. Besides which the prices of some old import titles is getting crazy. I certainly understand why others emulate or mod but it's not for me.
