I don't collect sealed, but I think I might somewhat understand the appeal. Now, I'll never understand the way they see these things as so extremely valuable, but I do get the neatness factor.
A sealed game is kind of like a time capsule. The last time it was exposed to fresh air and oily human hands, was X amount of year ago (if ever). The product is (supposedly) still in factory mint condition. It's kind of cool to think about, but it's something that would ultimately drive me insane, because I tend to get overly sentimental about stupid shit like that. I'd feel actually guilty about opening it and ruining it's preservational state, and then I'd also feel guilty about never playing that game and basically ignoring something I should be enjoying, and wasting my own, or someone's money that was spent to get it. Hence why I don't collect sealed.
I would be lying if I said that it doesn't pain me to break seals, but I do it. Fortunately for me, I buy re-sealable baggies for my games so that I can keep them as 'new' as possible after breaking into them. I probably have several hundred sealed games, I'll open them when I feel like playing them. The only one I might not open, is a copy of Bram Stoker's Dracula, since I already have an opened copy.
Ron Jeremy with a PSA for sealed game collectors:
People who open sealed games and carefully document the contents are doing the Lord's work. I've done that a few times myself.
I've opened most of my sealed games except, like QuickSciFi, the ones I simply haven't gotten around to playing yet. The ones I've opened include, let's see...a bunch of PlayStation games, 4-5 3DO games bought as part of a cheap lot, three on the Dreamcast (Alien Front Online, Floigan Bros., MTV Sports), a couple 32X (Shadow Squadron and Supreme Warrior) and one on the Genesis (ATP Tour Championship Tennis). I think that's it.
For Dreamcast games (since they fail to load so easily), it's certainly nice knowing that the disc inside the package will be pristine.
Lol yes, it was pretty awesome he was able to get this video made. Probably one of the most entertaining things I've seen regarding sealed games.

I've been thinking about this topic for a while regarding modern games (7th and 8th gen). Didn't want to start a new thread on the same topic, so here it goes:
I can somewhat understand the value in keeping retro games sealed all the way up to the 6th generation. Some folks say you get to open them one day years in the future and still have the "freshness" that they did back in the day. But, lately, I've been seeing some big time youtubers say the same thing about modern games. That's great and all, except for one problem: just like today, 20 years in the future, you're only opening "half" the game.
I have much respect for these youtubers. So this is not an attack or even a critique on their choice. I merely want to know if there are any other possible practical reasons to further this practice with modern games (specifically 7th and 8th gen; with obvious few exceptions whose full content already exists on disc).
P.S.> I, myself, have also owned some sealed modern games, for the same reason I mentioned in my previous post. My personal reasoning? I snatched them at a good price at some point and just haven't gotten around to playing them just yet. And, even then, I've already opened 99% of them to make sure they are all fully patched on my consoles before that fateful day arrives when the servers are gone (already happening) and you are no longer able to do so. And as for DLC, I don't normally care for this kind of stuff, but damn it, if it doesn't hurt when a sealed modern game says it's free to dowload on the cover and you no longer can because you're passed the expiration date.
