For Sega, case and instructions preferred, though will consider lucys if it's a significant discount from complete.
All hang tabs are removed.
I sometimes buy loose games just to rid the world of them, put them in my catapult and launch them out the dormer.

That's the most '90s render catapult I've seen so far.
haha one of my first posts here.
It's still not the real cases and manuals. Really no point in it expect eye candy for the OCD. The money and time invested into fake cases you might as well buy the real deal imo.
I mainly collect CIB for sega and that's because the cases weren't cardboard for most of them.

For Genesis and Master System games, if I'm buying online, I want CIB with hang tag, but more importantly, everything as pristine and close to new as possible. No edge wear on the artwork or creasing on the manual or anything. I'm willing to compromise if it's a really good deal, but when I have all the time and selection in the world, why not hold out for the best? I'm willing to pay a little extra, but not ridiculously so.
If buying Genesis games in person, as long as they at least have the box and manual I'm happy. No manual I can live with, but will try to pick one up later. If I'm feeling really spicy, I'll buy a loose cart, but only if I'm really interested in playing the game.
For 32X I'm generally ok with loose, but will get the box if possible. Cardboard Genesis games I prefer with a crisp box, but those are a pain in the ass to collect, so as long as they're complete and not too worn and packed safely I don't care too much.
For anything CD based, I have to have the box and manual, can't have loose disks sitting around, or in weird cases. Spine cards I don't give two shits about.
HuCards I'm OK with loose but will spring for box and manual if not too much more.
Anything else that originally came in cardboard boxes - NES, SNES, N64, Jaguar, Game Gear, Game Boy, etc I don't bother with finding the boxes, and collect loose. If I happen upon a box, great, if not, I'm 100% OK. I don't have much nostalgia for Nintendo stuff.
I only really collect and care about mega drive games, collection wise.
It's a no brainer for me to go complete since the plastic cases stand up to the test of time really well (Nintendon't).
I have a very few amount of loose carts and I even feel bad about it. I'm eventually going to get those complete too.
Also, the Japanese boxes and manuals are GORGEOUS. (I get the jp versions where possible, or eu Megadrive. Genesis only if that's the only release, which hasn't happened yet. There's some good us-only games though. Sorry for the long offtopic lol.)

I livestream different systems and Japanese exclusives with some language competence.
Since 2014, though, I carry on the Megamarathon project: beating and documenting every single Mega Drive videogame.
All regions, unlicensed, unreleased, homebrews...
I buy to play, not to collect. If something still has its box and manual and the price is right, I'll jump on it. Otherwise, I'm fine with just a cart, as long as its been tested and works.
