Atari2600 Art of Atari, A Hardcover Book Featuring 40 Years of Atari Game Packaging Design

    https://laughingsquid.com/art-of-ata...kaging-design/
Atari is one of the most recognized names in the world. Since its formation in 1972, the company pioneered hundreds of iconic titles including Asteroids, Centipede, and Missile Command. In addition to hundreds of games created for arcades, home video systems, and computers, original artwork was specially commissioned to enhance the Atari experience, further enticing children and adults to embrace and enjoy the new era of electronic entertainment. The Art of Atari is the first official collection of such artwork. Sourced from private collections worldwide, this book spans over 40 years of the company’s unique illustrations used in packaging, advertisements, catalogs, and more. Co-written by Robert V. Conte and Tim Lapetino, The Art of Atari includes behind-the-scenes details on how dozens of games featured within were conceived of, illustrated, approved (or rejected), and brought to life!

This looks great. Actually kinda wish this was getting a PDF release, because I've been wanting some high resolution prints of some of the artwork for a while now.

    Thanks for the heads up.

Atari had some of the coolest box artwork for their consoles in the 80s. I look forward to checking out this book.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

I pre-ordered this book a while ago. A book like this is long overdue. Atari's artwork was incredible.

I wonder if the guy on the Super Breakout cover was based on Steve McQueen.

This looks cool, thanks for sharing - I may buy this. I always loved how, in this era of gaming and those that followed, that this artwork showed what the games' graphics were supposed to be if we used our imagination while playing despite the obvious disconnect.

It beats me how we now have almost real graphics in modern games, yet, on most adverts we are treated to 'not actual game footage.'

I'm not too interested in the art as much as the history.
I do know Steve Jobs worked for Atari.

Hopefully this covers the whole breadth of Atari output, not just the 2600 and early arcade titles.

This looks really cool. You can tell the writers/contributors really put their heart into it.
