Default GameGear VA5 shutsoff with contrast wheel

I was installing a backlight mod, which ive done many time but not in a VA5. Not sure where things went wrong but now unless the contrast wheel is set to dark it will short the gg and turn off.
Already tried replacing the wheel. Not sure what else to do.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Did you check the capacitors related to it?

Ive had a few that shut off in about a second, but even thought the caps are all buggered, just cleaning the leaked fluid off the board is enough to make them work again, although very dim.

Replacing the capacitors alone is not enough, all the leaked electrolyte must be cleaned off and dried up too. If you dont do this and even if it does work, the electrolyte is going to eat the shit out of the board.
