My god all this crying over a stupid movie....
05/05/15
^ Stupid movie is right.
Again, I liked the 2nd part for the same reason I liked the first part. Only way you can change what's out on the market these days is by supporting it or not with your money.
Who is patton oswald and why is his/her opinion relevant?
I'm certainly far from the guys biggest fan, but everyone should have the right to see, or not see any movie they choose, no matter what their reasons. Plus the trailers really aren't doing a good job of making this particular movie look appealing
I can only surmise the real issue here is a somewhat public figure opening their mouth on the subject of a controversial movie, in a very public manner.
I have no issue with women in lead roles, but something did irk me when they decided this would be an all female cast before they cast it. I wouldn't have any issue at all if they cast genders equally, and then decided 4 women would have been the best choice, because of their casting performance over the other tryouts.
I'll hold out hope that there's a chance that the movie is much better than the trailers make it look, as I don't want to judge anything before it's out, but this one guys outlook(on anything, really) should really be a non-issue.
^ Hey, have you seen the latest trailer released like 2 days after that AVGN episode?
Wonder why it's not on the Sony channel this time...
So... what does everyone think of the title for this thread.
If that's your prerogative, you still have the right to choose not to watch a movie because of it. In that case though, how many would be that brutally honest about it, instead of it being an unspoken reason in the back of their minds?
They would still be perfectly ok with not seeing it.
They would just deserve to be given shit for being such a racist prick.
I don't see that kind of situation here.
It's just stupid because this movie looks terrible to a great many people.
And it's gained momentum as being some sort of spearhead for female representation in movies, equal rights, etc, etc.
So people are shitting on others for thinking it looks bad as being misogynists.
I won't say that isn't true for some, because I'm sure it is.
But you could replace all the female actors in the movie with male actors and I'd still feel the exact same way if they gave the same quality of performances.
I am not automatically against a reboot/remake/reimagining of the franchise (even if just a straight sequel makes SO much more sense). But just like the robocop remake, this one just misses all the marks for me as both a fan of the original, and as a movie in its own right.
But if you come out publicly saying it looks like trash. People shit on you because now you're hating it because it's got an all female cast... even if that had absolutely no mention whatsoever. I watched AVGN's video on it. Nowhere did I see him even so much as imply that he wasn't interested because they were women.
I didn't even hear him say that he thinks it will suck. He simply said that, watching the review, and knowing how absolutely in love with the Original he was, and all he'd hoped for in the sequel that never got made... that he knew this new movie could never live up to it, and could never be something he could enjoy due to the baggage he personally had around it.
That's absolutely fine. I'm nowhere near that invested in the original movie, even if I love it dearly and have watched it tons.
I'll watch this new one when I can do so for free. IF (big if) I see previews that can change my mind (none have yet), or hear from people I trust that it's actually good. I might go see it.
But that's a big if because almost everything about it so far just seems cheap, forced, and completely unlikable by me. I didn't crack so much as a smirk during any of the trailers.
When they announced it would be all women the reaction wasn't really that negative. When they announced it was a reboot and not Ghostbusters 3, that's when people lost their shit.
Then the unfunny trailer revealed it to be the soulless cash-in everyone figured it was.
I can't wait for this movie to be out just so everyone will shut the hell up about it.
still interested in the flick, still amazed feminist/sjw etc are used as pejoratives, but "cuck" is always good for a laugh
are you really asking about a well-known comedian in a thread about some YT personality though
pretty funny seeing people ride for AVGN on here despite, you know, all the sega stuff he perpetually gets wrong
quite right, shame the OP isn't here for that kinda logic
yes, they are clearly the only ones here with an agenda, a most astute observation
also agreed - i totally get not being excited from the notion of reboot (even if it's literally been a dead franchise movie-wise for decades), or the first trailer not doing it any favors...but as the OP here shows, the overlap with the latter & the former is hard to distinguish at times
that said, i'm interested to see if it's as enjoyable as the director's previous works, and even then, if many are willing to give it a fair shake. if this, for example, puts up BvS #'s on the boards with actual critics (not YT personalities), then i'll be concerned
Not sure why you would be surprised.
It's starting to become almost universally accepted that when a feminist or SJW becomes "offended",
a giant waste of time, money, and resources will occur.
Being "offended" is the only value these upper middle class yuppie professional victims have to society.
Fortunately, this latest social tantrum will be added to the mountian of grievances that are accelerating
the inevitable backlash which will cease all of this virtue signaling.
All they have to do is keep doing what they are doing.
Sure, he deserves flak for the SEGA stuff, but why does that excuse the steamrolling he's getting
from the entirety of the SJW / feminist market segment?
Why is not wanting to watch the latest corporate feminist propaganda vehicle such a major transgression?
Did feminists get this butthurt when "she devil" bombed at the box office?
You are implying that more then a dozen SJW marketed writers and hollywood personalities who
have used their respective medium to promote the exact same "narrative" within a very short
period of time, are not pushing an agenda.
