The new Dredd movie is great, but I choose not to compare them for the simple reason that the new Dredd movie is a DREDD movie.
as to where the 90s one was a STALLONE movie. (which are always entertaining in their own right).

Nothing wrong with either movie (aside from casting Rob Schneider), but the new one is certainly more true to the comics.

Shame it won't get a sequel, the movie really managed to show us a world that had many more stories to be told.

It was a really exciting time, even weaker movies like Jingle all the Way were fun to watch.
nowadays everybody comes out of the cinema and immediately twitters their amazing opinion on why something failed.

and while Stallone's Dredd movie might not have been very much like the comics it did have great colorful futuristic sets.
its a good movie in its own right, great for a Friday night on the couch with popcorn kinda feel.

And yeah, I miss the days where Stallone and Arnold movies would instantly be recognized as summer blockbusters.
now they're making shitty stuff with 50cents.

You guys should go watch The Raid: Redemption.

    Oh, wait. You did already.

    Dredd was good, though.

The last movies of their kind (if that makes sense) are True Lies and The Long Kiss Goodnight. Both brilliant.

Rambo 4 and John Wick were both pretty over the top.

To me True Lies was the last really good Arnold movie. Wish James Cameron did more Arnold movies. My fave director ever. Heck, I wish he did more movies, period.

On the bright side Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale control that franchise and Zemeckis has said a new movie will never happen as long as he's alive.

George Lucas said the same thing once upon a time regarding any sequels to Star Wars.

The difference is he's George Lucas.

Zemeckis' track record for protecting the legacy of BTTF is far less stained.

    Though he won't live forever.

It's no coincidence the Ghostbusters reboot only happened after Harold Ramis passed away. Something Rolfe hits on pretty hard in his video. I can see the same thing happening to Back to the Future someday.

The John Rambo of part 4 would have singlehandedly conquered Vietnam.

Well in my eyes George Lucas is nowhere near as bad a I originally thought. Ever since I seen Episode 7. Disney and Jar Jar Abrams are much, much worse then George Lucas.

What did you think was wrong with John Carpenter's version of The Thing?
