Yeah, I was referring to it being an improved remake of the 50s B-movie "The Thing from Another World". Looking back, my wording was a bit jumbled.
This was a good video on how the internet works.
The Thing isn't even much of a remake really, i've seen the 50s and 80s versions and other than the basic premise they have very little in common.
One thing they don't have in common is that John Carpenters' version is actually a good film, hell the 2011 reboot/sequel is pretty good as well actually.
Jesus Christ those previews miss the point. Way too serious.

I didn't really like the 2011 film. I really really wanted to. It's not terrible, but it just didn't do it for me. I Love everything John carpenter has done except maybe starman and christine. The 50's Howard Hawks the Thing from another world is a pretty great old film. It's certainly dated today, but it's a classic in my eyes. The short story it's based on (I think it's called "who goes there?" By Campbell) is excellent and I definitely recommend any fans of the 80's film check it out. It has a lot more in common w the 80's flick, but it's kinda got it's own thing going on. Lovecraft fans will most likely enjoy it.
I'm surprised I didn't notice this thread earlier. "Feminazzis" (male, female or other) and leftist progressives will always create a storm of baseless accusations and false labeling of people that do not bow down and kiss the proverbial ring of social justice. This is the society we now live in. Accept our way of thinking or deal with the consequences. Modern day hip fascism. James Rolfe was merely stating his opinion as well as publicly stating that he has chosen not to see or review a movie he disagrees with, and the feminazzis have a psycho social justice meltdown.
I haven't read every bit of this thread, but I get it, and I have seen his Ghostbusters non-review too. It's funny that he got involved in controversy, his non-review barely mentioned the gender at all. And the movie really does look horrible, regardless of gender.
Now the funny part is that there is also a very true sexist element, because the cast all seems like unattractive women, and a lot of guys (me included) would rather watch attractive women, than unattractive ones. I mean out of all those main characters, why not throw in one or two that's at least supposed to be attractive? That's my two cents. This movie will probably be forever known as a hotbed of controversy lol.
i thought a remake of a film of 4 comedic dudes not known for being attractive (for the most part) following suit made sense, personally
i adore carpenter's the thing, and still haven't given the 2011 one a chance...but this is yet another time i've heard good things about it. bumping it up in queue!
There are a lot of things I hate about this movie but this isn't one of them. The original Ghostbusters was about frumpy middle aged guys who became unlikely heroes. This one fills those rolls with comparable women.
That's just it though. They gender flipped the cheesecake too. Instead of having a hot chick get possessed they have Chris Hemsworth get possessed.
But both of these things play into, "we're just doing the same damn movie only worse," which is the real reason this entire thing is stupid.
Except none of them are funny.
Yeah, it's bad.
