I just want to point out that this was a very intentional decision by Climax. They took a middle route in the design of the game, reflecting their desire to create a simple, easy-to-play dungeon crawler with a bit of challenge to it. The game is not so difficult that it absolutely requires grid-paper mapping, yet it is not so easy that you can breeze through it.

Instead of having a complete auto-map, you are restricted to a spell-based auto-map that only reveals nearby surroundings that have already been visited. This spell only takes 1 MP, and you soon have a ton of MP, so by the time dungeons get a bit tricky you can use this spell quite freely. This restricted auto-map strikes a nice balance between hand-holding and being thrown in at the deep end.

SitD only has ~10 30x30 map levels (a bit less than other games like Eye of the Beholder and Bard's Tale), so the restricted auto-map was a way of milking more play time from the game. Either you had to draw out a map or you had to retrace your steps a lot and use the View spell.

Shining the Holy Ark has a full auto-map, but it's a much larger game and it also throws in some tricks such as walking on the ceiling that add challenge.

I don't think SitD would be as good with a full auto-map. But I also wouldn't criticize someone who wants to draw the maps out. That's just another way of enjoying the game.

My point is that you chose the wrong hardware. I don't buy ATI/AMD video cards because of their poor track record with driver updates. Support them if you must, but I just don't support poorly supported products.

All of that crap that the guy did in the video to get his ATI setup running right, can be done through Nvidia's control panel software. You can force your Nvidia card to apply AA, triple-buffer frames and any other things that a game doesn't support through its menus.

A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

Oh, I'm sorry, did I say my Dead Space problems were solved? How silly of me. This is PC gaming. The troubleshooting continues!

Anyway, at least I made it to the first save point and I don't have to put up with that unskipable intro for the upteenth time. So what's the problem now? Well the camera don't spin anymore, but me camera analog controller stick isn't responding in an analog matter, but digital (mouse respond in an analog matter, but no way will I play PC gaming with a mouse and key. Especially since I play in front of a TV and not desktop, and from the comfort of laying in my comfy bed). So something has to go in that joypad textpad. Sigh, time to google science this shit out once more. If I would of known this sooner, I would of done it sooner - since I waited till evening to play this horror game for better effect + plus evening is my prime time to unwind with something good, not wasting it on BS troubleshooting/aka. work... if I didn't get this game for free, I would honestly go to check my local gamestore tomorrow to see if they have an X-Box 360 copy of this available this time around. This shit is so not worth it...

Weren't you the one giving me crap, because someone finally made a mod to support a controller for Mass Effect on the PC?

    I say hypocrite.

    I don't get what you're talking about.

And speaking of getting ME3mp to work on PC, well, that wouldn't of been possible if I wasn't in contact with the person who created the mod to guide me through it + figure out why his code wasn't working on my PC and others. And during that whole troubleshooting process it was such a waste of time pain. ... but now, I've got no one to help me solve this Dead Space issue, which means it's going to take much longer to figure this issue on my own, or just say heck with it and buy the console version instead like I originally planned.

And for real, I only say this because shit like this always seems to happen when I try to play a pc version of a game. Like no joke. There's always some BS compatibility issue or something else preventing me from playing right away and without any troubleshooting.

Ok, it's not both analog sticks acting digital, it just felt like that because I maxed mouse sensitivity. The issue is that there's a massive analog dead space... er, zone. Meaning, it don't register anything until around pressing the stick past something like 50% halfway mark. Is this seriously supposed to be normal for Dead Space on an X-Box 360 controller?

Your response with ME3 was towards me for saying that I won't be buying the next Mass Effect on PC, because of how EA handled support for controllers with the franchise, as well as I'm not paying $60 for a digital copy of anything. You made it sound like it was a breeze to get a controller to work with the game, since the mod came out. Well, it turns out that it wasn't a breeze after all, was it?

Now, we have you telling us how difficult it is to get a game to run on PC and all of the driver issues and bugs.

As far as having trouble running PC games on your system as always being a pain. 90% of that is on you with your choice of hardware, driver setups and of course not having the knowledge to use google as your troubleshooting friend.

Anyway, found a very useful page for some of the problems with PC version Dead Space; http://freegamesdrone.com/2014/03/29...e-pc-problems/ (So don't tell me PC Dead Space don't have plenty of problems otherwise pages like this wouldn't exist)

So I've just used that third party device to fix the dead spa.. zone issues, but now the game is screen tearing like crazy and with frame drops too. And VSync is bugged in PC Dead Space, so... you've guessed it. The adventures of troubleshooting in PC land continues!

It's much easier now thanks to all the issues I was having. Since my issues contributed to mod updates. All you have do is download modmaker; https://me3tweaks.com/ and then the sp and mp controller mod, which, I don't know where he hid them on his redesigned site. But I have them both so I never bothered to ask him where those links are again. Anyway, once you fire you fire up modmaker, you just select to sp or mp controller mod and enjoy. Pretty simple now. But was a headache before.

And if anyone needs further help with getting ME3mp controller to work, feel free to ask me. Because I understand how bad it sucks for things on PC to not work without endless troubleshooting.

Alright, I finally seem to be all set to play Dead Space on PC properly. Thanks a ton, The Jackal.

But first, I'm tired of all that troubleshooting headaches and going to instead unwind with a movie or something after all that. Save Dead Space for tomorrow's evening slot once again.

My experience with PS3 controllers on Windows was to give up and use a DS4 which works a million times better, also yeah I use a Windows 10, I much prefer it to 7 now

IMO what happened to Nintendo is that they have embraced the very thing they used to decry, gimmicks. They used to be about simplicity, but ever since the Wii era they have bogged their consoles down with gimmicks.

Hmm, kinda. Every Nintendo consoles has it's fair share of gimmicks, but they never used to get in the way as much as they do now.

    As standard?
    Not really.

The NES, SNES, N64, and GC had some peculiarities to be sure, but nothing about them was gimmicky in regards to game systems.

The closest I can think of is the N64's goofy controller, but it was still a standard controller... it was just horrible looking... but was still every bit as functional as the PS1 and Saturn controllers.

The cart and mini DVD formats were poor decisions to be sure, but they were not gimmicks.

The Virtual Boy, DS, Wii, 3DS, and Wii-U are the gimmick systems.
