they weren't exclusive. thq released tons of wrestling games on psx. only not the aki ones because the playstation couldn't handle that engine.

edit: in fact they released an aki wrestling game on psx called vs the world/virtual pro wrestling in japan with that particular engine. it ran so shitty that they stopped doing that.

So by your logic, Tiny Toon Adventures wasn't exclusive on SNES with Buster Busts Loose and on Genesis with Buster's Hidden Treasure. Your logic is very stupid.

The THQ wrestling games on the 64 were exclusive, no matter how much you want to say they weren't. The only one that wasn't was Nitro, which came out in 99, a year after the PlayStation version. WCW vs. The World was the first game THQ published for their wrestling games. It's exclusive to PlayStation, so it's still an exclusive.

First party support was also great on the N64. There were also few games that were good enough to push console sales further later on. Goldeneye pushed consoles. Zelda pushed consoles.

Nintendo made some mistakes with the console which didn't let it compete with the PS1 head on but they didn't do as many mistakes as Sega did with the Saturn so it managed to at least survive a somewhat healthy 5 year cycle under Sony's shadow.
It goes way beyond the N64 having a successful launch and the software that came along later. The SNES faithful could have been lured towards the onslaught of PlayStation software between 1995 and the launch of the N64 in 1996, but Nintendo pushed hard with a ton of great software for the SNES in 1995, and they continued to do so in 1996, even though they were about to launch the N64 that year. They didn't confuse their consumer base with goofy add-on hardware, and decided to use cartridge based upgrades to keep the system relevant in 1996. Meanwhile, Sega had good software for the Genesis in 1995, was pushing an add-on that nobody wanted to pay for, or didn't understand what it was, and sort of threw a brick through the window of momentum they had established with the Genesis from 1990-1994. 1996 was sort of a deathbed for the Genesis.

Just look at what the SNES had from 1996-1997:

Donkey Kong Country 3 November of 1996
    Mega-Man X3 January 1996
    Lufia II August 1996
Final Fight 3 January of 1996
Street Fighter Alpha 2 November 1996
Super Mario RPG May of 1996
    Ultimate MK3 June of 1996
    Tetris Attack August 1996
    Kirby's Dreamland 3 November of 1997
Kirby Super Star September of 1996
Arkanoid Doh it Again October of 1997
Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems November 1996
Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow November 1996
Prince of Persia 2 October of 1996
    Space Invaders November of 1997
    Worms September of 1996

Yeah, the N64 had some great titles, but so did the PlayStation and Saturn. It took the incredible marketing of Nintendo of America, along with the continued strong support for their SNES console, to keep their core audience dedicated to their next console.

A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

That game made me cringe every time I walked into Best Buy, because they had it showing on the massive multi-screen display above. I'm pretty sure that the employees were ready to quit, after many months of hearing baby Mario crying relentlessly.

I mean, you contradicted yourself in the same post.

Also lets be real the PS1 could totally handle the AKI engine, although WCW vs The World isn't particularly fantastic.

^I picked up on that as well. It was both sad and funny simultaneously.

no I strengthened my point by pointing out that they tried the engine and it failed miserably. wcw vs the world compare that to wcw vs nwo world tour/vpw. the psx couldn't handle that engine at all. that's also why they stopped making those games on psx in japan eventhough the n64 was quite a failure in japan they still made the virtual pro wrestling games on n64. they weren't exclusive at all or else aki would've released their japanese versions on the psx like they tried first.

I always liked the graphics on Yoshi's Island, it looks 32 bit almost. That crying is annoying though.
