What example should Sinead O'Connor talk about, then? Rocky? Although I have never watched Star Wars, it's a good example. People loved the 70s/80s ones, and hated the 90s/00s ones before liking the recent ones. (I think the last one of the 90s/00s Sith was liked) Sonic is kind of like that, though I wouldn't say it has "blown chunks for absolute years" I would say there's only four, maybe five complete duds since they released the first Adventure. The rest range from mixed to great.

If I have to explain The Force Awakens to start with, then I'm not going to bother. You either see it or don't.

Let it go, dude. It's just an example someone posted, and a good one.

Let's be realistic here guys. Every single sidescrolling classic game worth anyone's effort, inclusive thereof of Sonic 1, 2, 3, Knuckles, CD and Sonic Pocket Adventure (NGPC), not to mention the Game Gear ones, has recycled a multitude of elements, level designs, what have you, from the previous iteration. Is this exclusive to the Sonic series? Fuck no. It's what sequels are made of. And it's precisely what drives folks to partake in these sequels. Because they want more of the same. Not because they want something different.

Well then maybe Sonic 1 is really the best Sonic, QuickSciFi.

As for wanting more of the same... well, that's a double edged sword. I wasn't all excited for the 32-Bit era's jump to 3D because it was all more of the same. More like it was a breadth of fresh air, as for some time after getting my Saturn, PS1 and N64 I couldn't even be bothered with ever firing up my old 16-Bit consoles. Kinda like how it was with the move from NES to SNES/Genesis.

Now the other part of the sword is I wanted 32-Bit updates to my fave franchises too. See how they would transition into the new era. Exciting times, exciting times. When the creativity juices were flowing. Ironically, this is also a reason why I'm always drawn to first generation game releases, as that's when everyone was brimming with new possibilities as to what the next consoles could bring. But that time is behind us now... the age of recycletron is upon us. All hail it's retro pixelated look. Now in HD.

PS - I haven't played the game yet.

Second best Star Wars movie after Empire.

I know you're just trying to mess with me. The original 1977 Star Wars is the best.

I haven't played it yet since I got the PC version and can't. But here is how I think of this in regards to using the classic zones etc...

Let me ask you a question... How much has your hometown changed in the last 20 years? I imagine you have more buildings that were added to the edges of your town or city and made it grow larger? Perhaps some older buildings were torn down and remade with new ones that perhaps used a similar style and design to others in the area to keep a certain look? You likely have old buildings still in use that have housed numerous businesses over the years right?

My point is that the Sonic games take place in whatever world they are designed to take place in. I know the comics and cartoons took place in Mobius, but I'm not sure the original games mentioned this did they?

Anyway, is it really that unrealistic to think that these games would take place in similar places and perhaps even sometimes in the same locations as previous games? so...might that explain why Green Hill Zone still starts off looking like Green Hill Zone and then there is so much more added to it?

I'm likely not explaining this well...but perhaps you can see where I'm going with this.

Reusing old zones with original graphic elements in a sequel doesn't seem odd to me. Why wouldn't it be possible for things to take place in the same places after all?

I thought Empire was the best for the longest time until I re-seen the Trilogy again recently and what I found out was the magic of the first was lost in Empire. Also watched these movies half baked too, so that also made me see these movies from a different perspective I've never seen before. Highly recommend you blaze up and see them again to see the error of your ways.

Sonic 1/2/3/Knuckles/CD did not reuse levels and stages the same way Mania reuses levels and stages. In that sense, Mania's callbacks and references are a first in the main 2D Sonic games. So you're comparing apples to oranges.

Sonic Mania is the first classic 2D Sonic title we've had in what...over 20 years? I think I'm okay with them reusing old levels, seeing as this was made to fuel our nostalgia as much as possible. We got 4 new levels anyway, besides. And going by the review scores, this is the most critically acclaimed game in the series; a 100% new level sequel is on the cards, no doubt. They'd be mad not to.

Yeah, I'm not really upset by the reused things, but I myself was speaking on a broad sense. Anyway, I'd take this just about all of what the franchise has offered in the past decade and a half, and I too hope we get some entirely original sequels, because while I'm not saying Mania's not great, an all original title would be mindblowing.
