i thought i gave some solid reasons for why i enjoy the classic series, too
OH WELL TIME FOR FURRY BUTTHOLES
The big question is why people who never got into Sonic at all, bought an anniversary game that celebrates his history.
Hahahahahahhahaa. Rep given.
I'd assume that people who hadn't played Sonic before, yet still bought Mania, did so because the game is pretty open to new players, and is pretty forgiving even compared to the NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A GAME OVER original games. Hell, I had 99 lives in a heartbeat in S3&K thanks to the electrical shield being a vacuum cleaner for rings, and my obsession to check for 1ups everywhere, and Sonic 1 had buttloads of rings in GHZ. The game is essentially a collection made by cherry-picking the best parts of the previous games, and making a pie out of it all.
Ok fucking hell I go away for a few days and I see Sonic rage induced posts in a thread which should be people enjoying a legit 2D Sonic game in years. I know you guys are passionate about this but seriously take it down a fucking level or I'm going to have to put my steel toe boots back on.

Sonic = Sega Genesis
The games are excellent and most who don't like the games just suck at them.
I couldn't find any 1 ups in Mania and were just out of reach when seen after first zone. Exception being last zone because I assume devs knew last zone was so easy to time out first time around, so just gave one for free each act to compensate. All my other 1 ups came from collecting 100 rings. Was disappointed I couldn't get any 1 ups from any bonus stages, or couldn't figure it out. So halfway through that demotivated me from doing any more bonus levels and just used commit suicide if under 3 lives on start of new zone technique.
Did you know gaming. Sonic Mania.
The speed runs are happening. Current WR @ 1:06:07.
His crankyness is offset by his sense of humor. To not see this is being the real crank.
It was a legitimate general question, too. I wasn't singling Joe out. Some reviews were the same, including I think it was IGN, where 2 of the 4 talking about it never "got it." Then again, evidently some that "never got it," finally did with Mania. It's still strange that anyone who didn't grow up with/like the Genesis games would ever bother with a game that has always looked like one since the moment it was announced.
Weird cases like those aside, it's been roughly 98% positive, and we're talking across the internet here, where people seem to go out of their way to be miserable.
People go out of their way to be miserable, because in large, their lives are pretty well devoid of misery. They cannot be the center of attention if they have nothing to complain about, especially if it involves them, personally. There are a million reviews saying that Sonic Mania is good, but if you can be Big Chief Contrarian and say that it is terrible, people will come in droves to protest! Traffic = ad revenue!
