Christian Whitehead did a stellar job on bringing the modern Sonic games into the current age, his involvement in this makes me absolutely look forward to this game.

    1) Buy the PC version, which will probably not be on physical media and may require the use of "Steam", which I am familiar with only as something that comes out of a teapot.
    2) Buy a modern console which I have absolutely no interest in, can't really afford, and probably can't even hook up to my ancient TV.

    Still...really good news.
Where the hell do you live that you own an ancient television?

I had a graphics card some time back that had a breakout box with S-Video, if the game scales well to low-end hardware and also supports 640x480 you'll be fine.

Yeah, probably, though the Dreamcast model doesn't look that different from the original design, amusingly. The biggest problem has always been the quills anyway (Sonic looks completely wrong in Sonic R and Sonic World (the 3D part of Sonic Jam) because the quills aren't curved).

I want to believe this game will be solid. But I've learned to hold my hopes down anymore.

Would be sweet if all of the Taxman's Sonic remakes would make it to Steam, then you could just buy a raspberry pi.and stuff it inside a Genesis shell.
then install SteamOS on it and the moment you turn it on, bam! all the Sonic remakes on one console.

Use something with Android and you can already do this, i've used the HDMI port on my tablet to play Sonic 1 and 2 on my TV a few times.

I concur with that. Three playable characters (from the start), new and old levels, snazzy animations, cool looking levels, proper physics...

Action Henk is out of a job.
    I demand a Blaze spinoff!

For what it's worth, even Sonic Boom looks decent. I figured it would have to be, since they were actually given enough time, even pushing the release date back and all:

Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal was superb. I'm stoked about Fire and Ice myself.

P.S.> Not talking about Wii U counterpart...
