Blinky Pac-Man’s Creator Toru Iwatani Shows Original Concept Drawings From 1980

    http://www.demilked.com/pac-man-orig...-toru-iwatani/

I never had a thought about Pac-Man going through the usual stages of video game development. That is until now, when images of Pac-Man concept art surfaced on Reddit.

Those are the pages from Toru Iwatani’s sketchbook filled with the original drafts of Pac-Man. Toru is the legendary Japanese video game creator who’s responsible for the original arcade game version of Pac-Man.

Wow, great find! I wish I could rep. Looking at that maze sketch, I'm glad that wasn't in the final. That looks like a nightmare to navigate. I've been playing a ton of Pac Man lately. This new Atari 8bit version specifically:

No, it's unbiased analysis. The only fanboyism is people who claim that Hyperstone Heist and Bloodlines are actually as good as their SNES counterparts.

Played some Famicom Tengen Ms. Pac Man with my nephew tonight. He saw the repro cart among many others in a box and got excited, exclaiming "Girl Pac Man!"
The competitive 2-player mode in the Tengen version is pretty fantastic.

I remember the 1st time that I saw Pac-man at the local bowling alley. I remember thinking that this game was way beyond anything that I'd played in the arcades before.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

As a kid I had the Atari 2600 version of Pac-Man, made me really want to play the arcade version of Pac-Man due to how bad the home version was. These days I prefer to play the sped up versions of Pac-Man and Ms Pac-Man.

How the hell did they make it this good on the Atari 8 bit computers, it looks better than the NES. This reminds me of the AVGN episode of Winter Games where he claims how the Atari 2600 port was split between the NES and Atari 7800 versions. Sure wish Atari added Atari 8-bit compatibility and DV-9 ports to their 5200, it would've sold a lot better.

To be fair, the biggest problem with the NES version is awful color choices. I can't think of anything else in it that's bad and that can be easily overcome (yes, fruits lost detail by becoming 1 color, but I don't think there's much that can be done over that and still doesn't really look bad). Well the HUD is at the side but that's what you get when the screen proportions aren't the same.

Somebody needs to make a palette hack of NES Pac-Man.

Playing Pac-Man with a d-pad just blows and is enough to ruin any port. You really need a good joystick to get the most out of it. That new 8-bit port is my favorite way to play it.
