Sega 3D Classics Collection

Did anyone get this? Still waiting for my copy to arrive in the mail, bought it recently for $18 + free shipping new.

It's good to know they went further in doing reverse engineering to improve the FPS and other features like 3D besides just straight up emulation.

I remember the announcement post for it here, but after that, everybody said nothing, which is a shame considering it had some obscure gems uncommon to most Sega compilations. What did you guys think? I heard someone bitching (as to be expected from the internet) that it was unimpressive, but I don't know how you could expect that much more than what it says it is.

I got it around launch. All the IPs were indeed rebuilt from the ground up. But other than Altered Beast and Sonic 1 (with the addition of the spin dash), I just couldn't find much attachment to the games featured.

I bought it at launch for Power Drift and 3D Maze Hunter since those were exclusive to the cart version (already owned all the single releases). The whole series are absolutely amazing games that to me justify owning a 3DS just for them.

Recently the 3rd and last cartridge has been announced in Japan and includes a mystery game that was #1 in a fan poll. I'd say there's a good possibility of this seeing a Western release since it includes Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on it.

Looks like Turbo Outrun may have been that game. Still about 3 more to decide on. Fingers crossed for Shinobi III. If it gets localized 'm definitely picking it up(Streets of Rage 2 alone would, let alone Sonic 2 and Gunstar Heroes), but Shinobi III would definitely add to sealing the deal.

Got my copy in the mail today. Enjoying it so far, and really love the idea that they managed to take Thunder Blade--a series that was almost universally despised--and give it some integrity and polish so that it's actually playable. The arcade version was obviously better than that SMS/Genesis trash, but the new reworked version in this set actually puts it on par with After Burner (the original AB, that is). I like the spin-dash in Sonic 1 and the ability to do random beast transformations in every level in Altered Beast. Good stuff.
