Default Is it Ever OK to Buy a Reproduction?

So... I really want to play MUSHA.

I know I could easily emulate it but playing it on the original hardware would be very cool.

That said, I cannot afford an actual cartridge.

So what if I bought a reproduction (clearly marked as such)? Would it even work? Is that a no-no among the community?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I'd say it's up to your own judgement. Another option would be a flashcart(everdrive, or whatever else), which would also allow you to play translations and hacks.

It's ok, as buying reproduction you'll support some Chinese people, but buying original you'll pay big money for someone, because it's collectible. In both cases you'll not support developers of game, so if you want just to play game, reproduction is OK.
But you would want to change label on cart, because they tend to be innacurate in proportions and with information on them.
You can contact seller of those reproduction carts and ask for a cart with correct label and ROM, if there's not already such in their shop.

Get a flashcart, like midnightrider said. In the long run much cheaper and many times more useful.

    Yes, this is even better.
But in this case buy original flashcard, support person who invented them.
    You know who I mean.

I collect repro games, but you can also buy one of those, it's better than those modern flashcarts, retro style.

    This is cancer.

It is never OK to buy a repro aimed to look as accurate as possible.

I agree with the flashdrive comments. And you can buy whatever you want. It's your money.

I thought about a flashdrive. Any recommendations on which one to get?

The repro I was looking at was specifically made NOT to look like a genuine cart. The label looked more or less correct (I'm no expert) but the cart shell was clear rather than black. And the seller was very clear that it was a reproduction.

Buy whatever makes you happy. I think the consensus is that (logically) selling a repro as an original is a no-no.

Other than that, there are games that maybe don't work on flashcart, that were never released. Like FF7 for the NES.

I'd say, avoid repro's for stuff still in production, like games from WM, SFT, or Piko (if they exist) since that money still goes directly to the developer/publishers. Other than that, get what pleases you and have fun!

I have already made my decision and I bought a reproduction cartridge off of Etsy. The seller I got mine from is GamesNDecals is my home state of New York he makes them as ordered with original Sega Genesis boards and shells using only new EPROMs. The labels look fantastic and have REPRODUCTION printed on them though the artwork is taken from the manual. I was very happy with his workmanship.

    To each their own really.

I would never buy a reproduction cartridge for a game that had an official release; I understand there are games that are money-prohibited but spending any amount for a counterfeit is probably a poor investment in the long-run compared to buying a flash-cartridge and having a larger library available to you as a few people have already mentioned.

But where I personally like reproduction carts for is with games that were never localized here and were strictly language-prohibited; it makes owning a dedicated cartridge novel and in and of itself is obviously not to be confused with something genuine.

Thanks for the link to that seller. I assume the game works just fine as far as playing it goes or you wouldn't have told us about it.

It also looks like he's got some other rare-ish and/or high priced titles too.

I keep parsing the title as a very mangled question from a non-native speaker about the ethics of prostitution.
