I play through them a couple times a year, 6 for nes is still my favorite of the nes megaman games. I also still play through x1-4 occasionally.

2-3 & 5-6 are very even in quality, not counting originality. They fucked up with most of the music in 4 and 1 is a bit better on MD (in emulation that is) but even then the main bosses aren't quite up to snuff for the most part.

I did a marathon of the main series, GB games, X1-4 and Zero 1-3 about two years back and now I'm still pretty much sick of MM. But I've never been much for replaying games in general and with several MM games it feels like you're replaying the same game.

I think I'd actually like Zero 2-3 better than the MMX games if they had higher resolution and were a bit better balanced.

Played through the original last night. It holds up well, except for the collision detection on those flying/shooting platforms in the Iceman stage, which can get infuriatingly wonky -- I lost more lives there than anywhere else.

It was fun to finally beat the Yellow Devil legitimately (I didn't use the pause trick), but it's a really weird bottleneck in the game. None of the other boss fights feel quite as punishing or pattern-based. I think the problem is that none of your attacks do much damage, so the fight drags on in a way I'd associate with a weaker game, or in any event a different game: normally, if you're able to execute a pattern 3-4 times and evade enemy attacks, that's enough in Mega Man.

Of course I didn't 1CC it, but I feel no need to do so in a game where it's so easy to camp out and kill respawning enemies until you get all the 1UPs you want.

^ So does that mean you're going to play another MM game next?

Me, looks like I might play to beat some MM games after. The suspense to compare these games is getting to me. I've just finished MM5 as the ending is still rolling on my PSP (don't notice any inpug lag emulating on PSP, as I felt I needed more responsive controls for playing MM). And before that I beat MM6. These games aren't that hard. Especially since for the castle levels I just brute forced it by abusing all the E-Tanks I've been saving and how often they drop.

So everything that lets player, Austin, said about these games seems about right. MM6 robot master levels seemed interesting enough, but not so for the castle stages. Especially with all the pace killing Rush suit changes being much more apparent. And MM5 really might be the weakest link.

    Anyway, MM4 next...

K, I beat MM4. And you know, Austin was right, playing this particular series backwards does wonder to compare them. What a great idea. But to the point. I've enjoyed MM4 way more then MM5 & 6.

And what's with this MM4 music hate? From listening to the tunes in game while playing, MM4 music felt more like MM2 & 3 tunes I'm familiar with and love best. MM5 & 6 music track are too different and mellow for my tastes. But I don't know, I should maybe listen to them out of game and get back to this.

I also like MM4 better than MM5 and MM6. And also didnt feel the music was bad at all.

I have a super soft spot for MM4, because it was the game that got me into retro-gaming. You see, back it 2001, i had gotten bored of gaming. I had gone through the PS, Sat, N64 generation and really enjoyed it... but always felt more like an experimental era.

Then got a Dreamcast, but in 2001 with it on its way out, i had to get a PS2, and really was getting no enjoyment from its early games. So at one point i traded the PS2 for a PS1 with a ton of games and some extra stuff. One of those PS1 games was the import MM4...man, when i booted up that game it hit me...this is the sort of stuff i love and that i had forgotten with all the 3d and cgi stuff from the 32-bit era. The music, the graphics, the simplistic but well designed gameplay, it almost brought a tear to my eye.

And that was the begining of it. Soon i bought back a NES, then a Genesis, SNES, etc. So far i have 35 consoles, the newest being the Game Cube, PS2 and DC, but rarely play those, its mostly 8-bit and 16-bit stuff i have been playing for the past 15 years, hehe. Funny thing, i havent played MM4 in depth since then, hehe. This thread is gonna make me give it a go tonight.

I still LOVE them all. In fact, I recently rounded up all the original 6 NES carts so I can play ALL of them for the first time on original hardware. I missed out on 5 and 6 growing up. But yeah, I feel they are still immensely playable.
