Yeah, for the Vita. What were you expecting them to do?
They sure weren't making a profit on a $300 OLED handheld without making the money back on accessories. You could buy a bundle with a memory card and a game for $50 more.
So, you're trying to tell me that you bought a PSP Go and didn't have a PS3, or that you just like to bitch about a product you don't own?Yes. It's dependent on it, and it's natively shut down. You can still use it if you install malware on your PC, or buy a console.
The PSP memory card was still twice the price of other SD memory cards. Sony was selling the razor blade at a loss and making it back on the razors. The rest of the accessories for the PSP were inexpensive. It was a decade ago. Memory card costs were high across the board back then, and came down because they were a competitive market, driven down in a format war. Sony & SanDisk had their shit all over the place in cameras, phones, and flash drives got cheaper.
The Vita came out in a different era.
You'd be a bigger retard to think that a $300 handheld could compete with the likes of Nintendo and the mobile market. I didn't lay down the cash, because the launch titles were meh! And just like the Wii U, software support died for the handheld because people weren't buying enough software for companies to want to throw any more money behind it. This is an isolated incident where 2 of Sony's poor hardware decisions had to be cut from their lineup, and still, Sony expected most of the owners of those devices to be owners of the PS3 or PS4. Hell, the PS Vita can stream gameplay from your PS4 to the bedroom. The Vita had Cross-buy going for it, but was treated like an accessory and not a platform in some regard. I bought it. It had a great UI and no games worth playing. Sony didn't support it. They fucked everybody with proprietary storage after the market already drove costs down on storage. The "massive amount" of PSN titles, including PSP and Playstation classics were slow to release and didn't happen until year 2 or 3, and even then they're not at parity with the PSP itself.
Sony fragmented the shit out of available content. Most people who bought the Vita totally expected it to be an upgrade of the PSP with available content. Even the PS4 SHOULD, but DOESN'T, let you play all your PSOne classics.
You would need to be completely fucking retarded to argue that the Vita was supported by Sony in any context outside of Japan.
I didn't feel punished at all. BFD about the controller not having rumble. I still use that controller when my DS3 is charging and I barely miss it at all. The old fat PS3 still gets all of the downloads and new features to this day.Ahh, yes. Rewarded for being an early adopter, punished with less features and support over time or if a late adopter. Playstation: Greatness Awaits.
And let's talk about the other 2, if you're going to bring up Sony's support.
Microsoft
MS dumps the Xbox and runs to the next big thing with the 360. 1st party support for the Xbox ends with Halo 2 in 2004, just 3 years after the launch of the console.
Xbox 360 had software based BC for select titles that need a patch to work. (All PS3 consoles can play 1st gen PlayStation games from the disc and fat model PS3s can play PS2 with a patch or with BC compatible hardware)
Accessories for the Xbox do not work on the Xbox 360. (I can use my arcade stick from my original PlayStation on the PS2 and PS3.)
The official Xbox 360 racing wheel is not compatible with the Xbox One. (Meanwhile the PS2's GT Racing Wheel works on all 3 consoles.)
Xbox 360 doesn't use 3rd party HDDs, without hacks. A 20GB HDD would set you back $50 and the 120 GB HDD sold for over $120. (PS3 and PS4 use 3rd party HDDs and SSDs, that can be exchanged between either console)
Nintendo
The New 3DS XL doesn't come with a power supply. WTF?!
The New 3DS XL has improved hardware, with some games not compatible with the older 3DS hardware.
The Nintendo DSi drops support for Gameboy Advance carts.
Nintendo's 1st 4 consoles had no compatibility what so ever.
Games purchased (digital downloads) for the Wii console were not transferable to the Wii U at launch.
