All I know is that hard work and dedication got me three. It's only day 1. There will be plenty more to come for the lazy ones who didn't want to wake up at 1am and line up by 3am. Oh, and I finished work at 9pm. Which gave me 4 hours to drive back home for an hour and a half, sleep for maybe an hour, then get back on the road by 1:30am not just to get my chance to buy this thing, but also to go straight back to work afterwards. No excuses. I work 80 hour shifts. You do with your time and your money as you please. Stop being cry babies and blaming it on the other guy when you know you didn't do everything in your power to get one day 1 release. Again, it's only day 1. Nintendo assured there will be plenty more for the lazy folks.


When I didn't get my NES classic, you didn't hear me crying about how all these scalpers took my NES classic. I faulted Nintendo for not meeting demand. Even small companies like LRG understand that scalpers mean bottom line revenue and it is up to said companies to make more b4 the consumers have to rely on said scalpers.

Not once did I say I plan to "scalp" any of the three I obtained. So all I hear is "envy" this, "envy" that. Nothing else. I could understand if this kind of mob behaviour started months into the release and some folks still havent gotten theirs. But, damn people, it's only been 1 day.

We all feel just as self righteous, so that's my two cents. And I'm not even a scalper.

QuickSciFi, just to be clear, I wasn’t referring to you (although the thought crossed my mind as I wrote out my tirade yesterday that I might be inadvertently calling you out). Early on when I reacted to you saying you had purchased two, I was even then under the assumption that you were doing the “one for play, one for display” thing.

I stand by my animosity towards the people who have admitted to buying this thing just to flip, however. Nintendo dropped the ball on the NES Classic, which allowed most of the units to be snatched up on preorders than purchased in stores. Yes, I agree I could have worked harder, but I just don’t think anyone should have had to work so hard to get one. Too many people saw the NES Classic and thought “OMG NINTENDO IS GIVING AWAY FREE MONEY!!!,” and at the end of the day, those people won.

So QuickSciFi, you’re cool. You and I have a similar collecting style, I never once questioned why you would get more than one SNES.

And like I implied earlier, the plus sign next to your name really means that it doesn’t matter either way.

To everyone else, particularly Baloo, who I called out specifically: participate in the scalping culture if you must, but it’s in pretty poor taste to talk about it here of all places.

I actually did this for someone this morning. Storytime!

I was off today and decided to take an early morning walk to my local Walmart to see if I could snag one this morning. When I got to the store, I was still mulling whether I should shell out the money for the pleasure of possessing this sought after item. Anyways I lined up and managed to get one in hand! WIN! I was hungry and headed over to the Mcdonalds, that was stationed inside the store, to get some cheap breakfast.

As I sipped on my coffee, a guy and his kid sat at a table close to me and the kid was wailing because he wasn't able to get the console. It seems the father had gifted his original SNES to a friend this summer not realizing his son enjoyed playing it. So, they marched over to the store in hopes of getting the next best thing.

Anyways, after hearing pieces of the story, I decided to pull the console out of the black bag I was carrying and asked the father if he wanted it. I just asked them to pay me for the price I bought it for. I think they were in shock because they didn't answer. I actually burst out laughing because they didn't respond.

The kid was literally crying with a big grin on his face and his pops face was red.

I've got to be honest and say that I was really looking forward to play some of those games this afternoon. But heck, I remembered once being that kid who was looking forward to getting a particular item only to be disappointed when I got to store (Never got the G1 Optimus Prime in K-mart since it was sold out, never got the OG Voltron from Zellers because my parents said it was too expensive, and a box containing my Star Wars collection and the sought after 1966 Corgi Batmobile diecast car that were dumped in the trash by my mom because I didn't do my chores (still angry about that mom! ).

Or maybe it was the sight of these two dead deer that were being loaded into the truck this morning?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that on my way to Walmart, I passed by a cop cruiser that was sitting behind a truck! As I slowly approached the cruiser, I saw these two city workers struggling to pull something into their truck. As I got closer, I saw it was a medium sized buck. The doe was already loaded into the pick up truck. And the buck must have been quite heavy since they could not get it over the tailgate. The deer must have been trying to cross the road, only to be stuck by a vehicle. The buck's head was twisted to the point that it's neck was split open. It was really a sad sight to see. They were a few steps away from crossing the road and making it back into the forest.

Maybe it was witnessing that grizzly scene that made me realize how fleeting life is and there are more important things in life.

The enjoyment and memories of child is way greater and important then us boring adults. So good call on making someone's childhood better.

Honestly, even if you did buy one to scalp, I wouldn’t think less of you, even as I told you it was a dick move. I don’t expect everyone to agree with me or do only the things I approve of, and that includes friends.

There was actually a time when I actually planned on buying two NES Classics: one for play and one for shelf candy. I gave up that pipe dream very quickly, and it was mainly because of asshole, scumbag scalpers. How many NES Classics actually ended up in the hands of the people who actually wanted them? I honestly don’t think 50% is an unrealistic guess. The rest just ended up sitting on Craigslist and EBay, snatched up by people who only saw them as a means to a quick buck. There are still mountains of them on eBay, now going for... what? $300?

So because of this, yes, I’m still very bitter about the whole ordeal, and it makes my blood boil to see people bragging about a perceived opportunity to pull the same shit with the SNES Classic.

I’m half-tempted to go buy another SNES, just on the off chance that the prices will get insane like before, just so I can bail out someone who might have missed the opportunity. I just don’t think that’s goin to be a problem this time.

I completely agree with you on this. The fact that there are folks out there who simply exist to be parasites is nauseating.

What's even more frustrating is that there are people out there buying these things up from scalpers, making it a vicious cycle of parasite/buffoon which of course raises prices for everyone else.

...and I say this full well owning the products that others scalp. I genuinely want folks who want to buy a product to actually play it to be able to get them instead of some bottom-feeding flipper.

Totally, but some people here are going to crack the snes mini anyway, in order to fill it with more romz and then complain that those games aren't properly emulated.
And how come nobody is angry at Nintendo selling two emulation devices/consoles that are exactly the same and not selling one as in Retron/Nintendo 2-in-1? Just for the sake of the different gamepads?? Or just the nostalgia effect those small boxes are supposed to convey?

Because that would be an embarrassing example of petty entitlement? I’m also not angry at Ford for not making their trucks look more like Dodges or GMs.
