In the US? I pretty much just assumed that wasn't an option.

MrMatthews, I worry about your location.
Believe me when I say this but it's worse in Canada. With a smaller consumer base, publishers release fewer units and stores sometimes won't offer pre-orders until they are sure how many units they actually have in their possession.
Examples:
The Special edition of Fire Emblem Echoes - sold out in a matter of minutes ... under 5 if I'm not mistaken.
Raiden V director's cut Limited Edition for the PS4 - It's available on Amazon.com but there still isn't any listing on Amazon.ca to pre-order the game here in Canada ... and it releases in just over a month.
Metroid Samus Returns Special Edition: Gamestop is currently offering pre-orders but it's Canadian counterpart, EB games (WTF dude) nor any Canadian stores for that matter are offering this edition at the moment.

Walmart Pre-orders hit last night while I was at work and I missed it. This is fucking dumb! lol

This whole situation is bs and is just a repeat of last year with the Nes Classic. I want a Snes Classic but screw this.
So far my order is still valid. The pre-orders lasted for less than 40 minutes, and then the page crashed.
^ this. it is as if nintendo wants scalpers to succeed.
Sometimes I think Nintendo is like the stereotypical 70s classic rock band that still tours - everybody just wants to hear their classic hits even though they write new music, so during their concerts they throw the audience a few bones to keep them happy, but not too much since that would take the focus off of their new music. In other words, while Nintendo wants to encourage a bit of nostalgia, they don't want to take the focus off of the Switch. Probably the last thing they want is for somebody to be able to go to Wal-Mart and see a SNES Classic next to a Switch and potentially be swayed to go for the cheap retro system that won't generate any profit from game sales.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."
My order is also looking good. I stumbled on it about 20 mins into the process, and my confirmation says delivery by Oct 5th.
Walmart I'm sure is going to try to cancel "scalper" orders, but that's not an exact science. So you could have the misfortune of being cut.
