And yet more "secret stashes" pop up. Now from Amazon:

Teehehehehe! I saw the news yesterday. A done of reality to prospective buyers? Yup!
To be honest I always thought the MSRP was pricy. The fact that the bundles were being sold cheaper than what the scalper market was offering the unit for doesn't change my opinion.![]()

It doesn't surprise me that Amazon was withholding hundreds of these. They've done plenty of shitty things lately, for example many times they themselves price things over MSRP because of their algorithmic pricing they use now which is designed to match their 3rd party sellers' prices, so they're competing with scalpers of their own accord.
I also remember them raising the free shipping threshold to $50, until they saw their sales were going down and other stores were offering $30 free shipping (like Walmart I believe. I can't believe I'm defending them over Amazon at this point), so they lowered it back down to $30.
Everyone on the internet seems to think it was this great, charitable event, but I think it was really scummy of them to withhold hundreds of these to promote their "Treasure Trucks".

SNES Classic Edition preorders are set to go live at the end of August.
Still feeling salty about losing your SNES mini pre-order last week? I don’t blame you, but fear not, as Nintendo may still have your back.
In a move that is sure to temper at least some of the recent resentment within the retro gaming community, the legendary video game company took to Facebook earlier today and announced that legitimate store reservations for their insanely anticipated Super Nintendo plug-and-play will open up later this month in the U.S. via “various retailers.” Nintendo also took time to reiterate that there will be plenty of systems available for customers, both on launch day and leading into the remainder of 2017. Whether they follow through on these promises remains to be seen, but at least they’re addressing what is sure to be a stock nightmare with some reassuring lip service.
Here’s the full text of the official announcement:
We appreciate the incredible anticipation that exists for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition system, and can confirm that it will be made available for pre-order by various retailers late this month.
A significant amount of additional systems will be shipped to stores for launch day, and throughout the balance of the calendar year.
To be fair, Nintendo has been singing this song since June, when it stated that it’d be producing many more SNES Classic Editions than its admittedly lacking number of NES mini units. This is all well and good, but today’s pleasant Facebook post comes just days after a rather publicized pre-order snafu at Walmart. In case you’ve been out of the loop, countless SNES enthusiasts were able to secure a confirmed Classic Edition pre-order only to have it canceled en masse barely a week later. Granted, this debacle surely had more to do with a Walmart website error than with anything Nintendo was responsible for, but the console is still two months away and a large number of consumers are already feeling burned.

More NES Classics "found" by Gamestop. What amazing luck they are having!

The whole deal with the Nes Classic is just shady all around, I mean with stores holding back stock.
I'm sure these stores planned for this the moment they knew Nintendo was going to limit the supply and saw how massive demand for the pre-orders was.
Had Nintendo committed itself to pumping these out for a couple years they wouldn't have cared. But now it's a good way for them to clear stock of some high profit margin crap they never would have sold otherwise.
It's a shit show all around, and unless "more" means a hell of a lot more, the SNES classic is going to be the exact same.
I'd put any amount of money on it.
There's no downside.
Nintendo pulls the same thing? They have a bunch allocated to make a pretty hefty profit off of ready to go just like the NES classic.
Nintendo amazingly produces enough SNES Classics to satisfy demand? They simply sell the units they held back normally.
The way the preorders went is seriously pathetic. There's no reason they couldn't have done better than that.
You just can't handle my jawusumness responces.
Kicking out scalpers is harder than it sounds (since you can't just cancel everything as you risk cancelling the few lucky legit preorders, and scalpers already figured out how to work around all the obvious detection methods).
I'm seriously wondering if (at the expense of everybody's annoyance) they shouldn't have just made all sales at the physical stores themselves (i.e. not on-line). Sure, people line up since very early on, but at least it's harder a given person to manage to get more than one.
I was one of those who had had a pre-order canceled from Wal-mart a month ago. I also managed to get a pre-order this time around...again from Wal-mart. I heard through the rumor mill that Wal-mart was only putting up 100 units for pre-order on the website. Don't know the veracity of that number, but it was from one of the twitter people who had dropped the start time for the Walmart/target/gamestop pre-orders starting at 1PM EDT (which by and large they did).
I just wanted the one SNES classic, and I didn't really care about the NES Classic.
The SNES classic has several games that don't work on the SD2SNES.
I don't know if I'd have attempted to brave the unwashed masses to get an SNES classic on the physical release day (I doubt it...probably just count it as lost, and move onto plan B).
