yeah, this was during that whole "New Age" scare of the late 80s/early 90s so if something looked even remotely like baphomet/etc from a distance, you had to kill it with fire i guess
Coincidental timing that this discussion about Altered Beast and religious extremism in the US comes up. There indeed was a hysteria among many Christians throughout the 80's and into the 90's with beliefs of Satanism infecting or exploiting children.
Just recently a man and woman were freed after 21 years in prison on false claims that they were Satanists. That linked news article details some pretty insane shit which religious people and their children were fearful of and not hesitant to accuse others of. More troubling is that the legal industry; the lawyers, therapists, councilors, judges, police, etc, were eager and willing to promote themselves and cash-in on such outrageous and fantastical claims.
I had no idea that Altered Beast got caught up in the hysteria.

jesus, those poor people lost a chunk of their lives...Coincidental timing that this discussion about Altered Beast and religious extremism in the US comes up. yeah it was some book my mom had about THE NEW AGE & YOUR CHILDREN and it literally listed micheal jackson (for captain EO of all things), marvel comics, TMNT, and i wanna say that sega game (fortunately i already had the genesis itself!), so you can imagine how much joy that fucking text stripped from me around 11-12 years old, ugh. im clearly still bitter!
"Children from their day-care center accused them — variously — of serving blood-laced Kool Aid; wearing white robes; cutting the heart out of a baby; flying children to Mexico to be raped by soldiers; using Satan’s arm as a paintbrush; burying children alive with animals; throwing them in a swimming pool with sharks; shooting them; and resurrecting them after they had been shot."
Holy smokes ... do you know what would happen if anyone in America was accused of that now? Half the internet population would want them burned at the stake, the other half would say that Satanists are people with religious beliefs too and they cannot be discriminated against. Then Trump would say something along the lines of "Both sides need to just calm down," and then he would be accused of Satanism because he didn't pick a side. Then every news outlet from those insipid google rags to Newsweek would be consumed over the next month with stories about devil worship and cannibalism at the White House.
All because some lying little brats were taken seriously.
Did the topic get too dense for my comprehension, or is the thread officially derailed?![]()
^ What? No. Star Wars is always on topic.
Nah, just having fun. I just lost track of even what the derailment topics were about.
I just don't understand any correlation to making an analogy to the way Trump failed in disavowing racists.
I guess it was a joke. But the way you stressed he seems like you were trying to assert a point about some supposed unwarranted criticism of Trump.
Agreed!
idiocy of America talk > then satan talk
