Are people talking about SMB3 that much these days? I'm not spending any time on Nintendo forums. As popular as it was, and it was popular everyone I know played the hell out of it, from my preteen perspective it was completely left in SMW's wake. Almost like people forgot about it. I'm guessing most people see bigger, prettier, with save SMW as the definitive 2D Mario game these days. I have trouble calling SMW3 overrated with all that it added to the series. It's the sequel most wanted in the first place, which is why SMB2 seems so underrated these days.

It seemed like for years SMB3 would always top "Best Mario" polls around the internet but maybe things are changing with younger generations posting more. People that started on N64 or GC probably have less tolerance for games without saves.

It has saves on SNES, GBA, and Wii. I don't think that's really the issue.

Yoshi's Island is neat but I freaking hate baby Mario and want him dead. I also find it overrated, the game isn't all that amazing, certainly nothing close to S3&K.

Super Mario 64 was revolutionary at the time, but I can't play it these days. I'd rather play Croc.

The "2D with 3D graphics" Mario games like New Super Mario Bros are all terrible.
    Thank You!!

I will vote for Super Mario Sunshine. Never has a game felt more truly broken and gimmicky than that game. It's the one game in the Mario series that I cannot bring myself to ever finish. I will always love Mario 3 more than SMW but don't think SMW is overrated. 3 and 64 are my two favorites of all time.

New Super Mario Bros. is the over rated game, along with Yoshi's Island. Crying baby Mario is annoying.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

I really hope you have other reasons to call Yoshi's Island overrated other than crying Mario. If not, that's very petty.

If you own a flashcart or emulate, crying baby Mario is a thing of the past. There's this site called romhacking.net and it makes cookies!

Seriously dude, I was doing a quick post from my smart phone. You got to get with the times and understand that not everyone is sitting at a keyboard.

Since you requested more, here it is.

While I do think that SMW borrows a lot from Super Mario Bros. 3, they tried to do something different by adding Yoshi into the mix. Yoshi was not everyone's favorite part of the game, but he was a constant sacrificial lamb to get you to areas you could not get to without using him as a boost jump off of his defeated back. He didn't jump well and the only purposes he served was to take the hit for you and do a few tricks like Mario could do by spitting Fireballs and turtle shells. Fast forward a few years, and not only do we get another Mario game with Yoshi, we get one that IS a Yoshi game with a little Mario riding on his back to keep it a part of the Super Mario family. So, now we have (sort of) my least favorite part of Super Mario World (Yoshi) strapped down by an annoying, crying Mario that you have to constantly backtrack for every time he gets knocked off of Yoshi's back. Yeah, the game is pretty to look at, but I don't find it all that fun to play, compared to the previous Super Mario Bros. games that came before it.

Yoshi's Island is just a little bit too twee for my liking, although it's pretty clear that it's a very well designed game. I know I prefer Mario on his lonesome rather than tethered to a dinosaur. It's the only Mario game I've finished, haven't played the rest enough to vote with good conscience on if they're overrated or not.

How am I supposed to know you're on a phone? We're not ghosts.

Either way, you still haven't explained why it's overrated beyond a crying Mario.

Yes I did! What part of me saying Yoshi was my least favorite part of SMW and now having a game with him in it, that has him backtracking to save Mario did you not comprehend?

No you haven't. I'm not seeing any other Yoshi's Island criticism from you other than Mario crying when you get hit by an enemy, which is still very petty. Is it the difficulty that bothers you? Lengthy levels? Maybe the bonus levels? Lack of saving lives despite battery backup? (Though that's the case with most Mario games of that time in the 90s) Mario World 1, Yoshi was optional. It wasn't like you were forced to use him all of the levels. If you're backtracking to save Mario in Yoshi's Island, you need to get better at not getting hit or reacting much more quickly to get Mario.

Not everybody is psychic to know people are on phones.
