Default Battle Golfer Yui translation patch

    http://www.romhacking.net/translations/3364/

Hey, looks like someone actually translated that game, so I figured I'd link it for those interested. RPG/Adventure/Golf hybrids aren't all too common, so that's even better. Cool to see another Genesis translation done and finished. Hopefully even more will follow next year.

Only Japan can create something like this hahaha. This is great, thanks for posting the link.

I bought a copy of the game yesterday and started playing the translation today. The story is really crazy. The music quality isn't very good but the compositions are nice. The manga artwork is quite OK.

I suck hard at golf, so I failed right away at my first attempt. At my second try, I would have failed again if it wasn't for the opponent who gave up immediately after a bad shot (had he known I would have shot even worse, he wouldn't have given up I guess). I came to the second opponent, but the first one said I could face him again if I wanted to, but I couldn't pick him again it seems. Would be good if you could grind in the game, otherwise I fear I might lock myself in by being too weak later in the game (something which happened when i played Warsong the first time).

Dude I played this through and took the effort to translate it for myself as I played it to enjoy it.
Translation patch released 1 month later.

We had a similar situation with Dahna a year and a half ago or so... someone literally mentioned the idea of doing the patch here on day on which we uploaded it to RHDN, lol. Things like that happen, sometimes. I wonder if that happens with our current, sorta secret Genesis translation project as well.

    hahaha now we're talking.
I'm betting on The Hybrid Front or Magical Taruuruuto-kun ( actually, that's what I would like to to see ).

I know another game which was translated twice, but the second patch hasn't been released.

tryphon is working on The Hybrid Front.

Has there been any progress on Hybrid Front that you know of? I did try to get a Japanese friend of mine to look at the text but he wasn't interested so I didn't want to push him.

Yeah, but I think it is on hold until his Shinobi port to Mega Drive is done.

Tryphon isn't very active these days unfortunately. Probably some real-life issues and such, and so he hasn't been around for a long time. We kinda lost contact with him last year, so I wouldn't expect HF being anywhere near the level of completion. In fact, most likely no translation work has been done yet. The game we're working on is also a strategy game by the way - most of the good games left are likely from that genre.

We will likely have a look at Hybrid Front eventually, if all pans out. Looks like nobody is working on it at this point, so that's definitely a viable idea for a project. Supper may work on some more MD games once he's done with Sailor Moon. Other than that, Surging Aura is being worked on by RedComet as you likely know, so that one is covered and hopefully ends up being finished soon-ish.

Oh, which one do you have in mind? There are some potential translations for which you can find info online, but they haven't been touched by ROMhackers otherwise...

I've played the game for a few days, not beaten it quite yet though. It's quite enjoyable, sometimes frustrating. The opponents often differ between super skilled or sucky. It can be really annoying when you play greatly and score a birdie or something, then the opponent does the same and you lose because you do that at even matches.

I would have liked if the text was skipable and it was possible to give up.

I think I noticed a point of no return. I got the Key of Sadness and tried to use it at the room with the book shelf, then I couldn't leave that place.

I beat the game today. The ending was kinda epic. The cutscene artwork was among the best of the entire game (especially the last parallax scrolling, it was a joy to see). I'm thinking the golf theme is more of a symbol for something completely different, like moon travel or something like that. It's a shame I didn't know any of the characters which this game's characters made parodies of, but the script and artwork could still give some amusement. The music was a bit tinny, but some of the tracks were well composed at least.

I never understood what some of the special powers did, but I did use a strong shot, one which bounced on water and one which made sure the ball landed directly and didn't bounce. As I wrote yesterday, losing was quite frustrating at times, but since the game is rather short and easy I can forgive it. You'll have a lot of fun seeing a tremendously louse AI make awful shots, which land on this bush bombs which blow them far far back, and they don't give up after 7-8 shots. Yet, sometimes they do when they hit the water on the first shot :P. A lot of physics were pretty bad, but since it was the same for the opponent I guess I can forgive that too.

It's a nice short golf game with some comedic value, but I think people who want a proper golf experience will have more fun with the PGA Tour Golf games. They have more meat on the bones and feel more authentic.

Thanks again to the people who translated this! You did a great job!
