honestly this game straight out rules and everybody should just play it to the end to enjoy it themselves

its major flaw is the AI stupidly gives up often, which btw makes playing this to its end actually more doable

I am looking forward to replay it myself sometime soon with the translation patch

I'm the one who finished up the hacking work for this, so thanks to everyone who gave it a try (and let me know if you run into any problems, because they're probably my fault). It's not the best golf game ever made -- or at least I hope it isn't, I don't think I've ever actually played any others to compare it to -- but it's definitely one of the strangest.

While I was working on the game, I found resources for some interesting features that got cut, so I thought I'd share them here in case anyone's interested. It seems like the developer had a fair bit more planned for the game than they got around to implementing.

This shop was axed from the final game. You can buy several items here (or you could, if it was possible to earn money) that you can use to give yourself an advantage (or you could, if it was possible to use them). While the shop interface seems mostly complete, the tilemap for the background was deleted, which is why it's all garbled. The graphics themselves are still there, though, so it turns out you would have been buying stuff from this shady character:

This is a reconstruction, so it's probably a little off, but you get the idea.

Filler translated the text for the shop, so here's the important stuff to give you an idea of what was planned:

"You can hold up to 5 things."

    Drink S 100 G
"It's a medicine that will recover SP slightly."

    Drink L 500 G
"It's a medicine that will recover SP completely."

    Lucky Card 200 G
"It's a mysterious card that will recover luck."
I have no idea if there's a "luck" mechanic in the finished game or not, or if there's any other code remaining for any of these items. There's a tilemap for a menu that would let you use these during the golfing segments, but I haven't looked into it at all.

If anyone wants to take a look at the shop themself, start a new game in Adventure Mode, then turn on PAR code FF8176:0004 and turn it off once the shop has loaded. You should do this in the original Japanese game -- since it isn't used, we didn't bother formatting the translated text, so it's a big mess with the patch.

In addition, there's an unused message for earning arbitrary amounts of EXP instead of the fixed 10 you get after every match. I'm not sure why they didn't go through with that. Seems like the game might have had a bit more depth if it had gotten some more development time...
