Were you around for Thief's other social experimentation threads? There was one in particular - I think it might have been the one about the statues - and it was particularly intense. I think that was the primary discussion that divided us (irreparably, in some cases). I don't think this one would have gone down the same if those first few threads hadn't come first.

But, that was exactly what Thief was after. Everyone saw it and played along, anyway.

In my many years on SEGA fan forums, various ones. It often seems most the members are from the UK or surrounding areas and I'm not saying it represents a majority who live there, of course not but in my experience people from those areas on SEGA forums are often fairly racist in comparison the US members and see some extreme cases. I'm not saying people in the US don't have racists because lol of course we do(we elected one FFS). I'm just simply stating an observation and I find it fascinating.

What with life and work I have only had time to be here sporadically over the last few years unfortunately, but I knew of Thief and, like I've said several times, he was always a friend to me. I realise that he rubbed people the wrong way and that he had some unique beliefs. I just can't say anything bad about him because I never had a problem with him, unlike seemingly 99.9% of people on here.

If it helps you to understand the situation better yes, there is a lot of racism in my country, just as there is in yours. It has got worse over the last few years because of Muslim extremism and acts of terrorism, there is no denying it, but if you think my views are racist you should talk to various members of my family, friends and the people I work with. Trust me, by comparison, I'm a complete liberal!

Anyone can just wave a flag as they commit some horrible tragedy. Not religious myself but know people who were many religions including Muslim. I live in Salt Lake where the Mormons roam and people have a lot and I mean a lot of misconceptions about them (most famous is polygamy). I don't judge an entire race/religion based on a few loud extremist idiots. I just judge those loud extremist idiots.

Exactly. It's ridiculous to assume that all Muslims are potential terrorists just because they share the same religion as fundamentalist nut jobs. I'm just trying to explain why it might appear that there is so much racism, not just in the UK, but across the western world right now. It doesn't excuse it but it goes some way towards explaining it.

lol me too. I have jet black hair and very white skin. There is colour in my cheeks, a slightly pink complexion, but that might actually be due to my borderline alcoholism than anything else.

it's never really racism, it's pretty much always xenophobia. you can interchange race with gay, transgender, whatever and have the same.

there's less racism or xenophobia then there's ever been in the western world right now. just as there's never been this less war worldwide, this less hunger, diseases and criminality. cold hard facts that the media don't like to mention. fear is an emotion, which I don't know much about as I look at the world around me with rationality, especially when I have hard facts laying around me. and these hard facts portray nothing but an exceptionally bright future no matter what way you like to look at it.

When someone is blatantly wrong on the internet they think they are protected behind the word opinion. You can still be wrong and called out deservedly so on your bullshit. I have been called out before as has everyone at least once but then some people just post bullshit just to spread bullshit or as we call it now trolling.
