Default Is a new Sega console closer than ever, now that the Atari VCS raises millions?

millions of dollars in just 24 hours for a shit system.

imagine how people would be supporting and raising money for a new sega system. making a system with the power of the switch is easy and cheap as hell and it could play all sega games in history (with online support and gameplay) as well as newer games. now that the atari vcs somehow has a lot of people being hyped for it I think sega should try their hand soon.

So did Ouya. Atari VCS will flop hard. People don't get Atari doesn't exist. Atari has been sold so many times as a brand. The company shut down decades ago. Atari is not making consoles again. Whoever owns the brand is just trying to bank on Nostalgia...You can buy the Atari Flashback console which has a bunch of games on it for less than a 100$. This think is 250 bucks and that only comes with the Atari Joystick. 300 bucks if you want the modern controller. What games does this thing play? Android games..again like Ouya. This thing is just a more expensive Ouya and guess what Ouya without a known brand raised more money. 8.5 million. SEGA somewhat exists. Sure they are owned by Sammy but overall same company. Will SEGA do one of these? Fuck no. They are not that stupid. Sure they are dumb for sticking with Atgames but not stupid enough to make a $300 Android machine. SEGA still makes new games for modern systems. More profitable for them to release the Genesis collection on modern systems and SEGA Ages on Switch and just some cheapo flashback system. Little risk and big reward. Whoever has the Atari brand(I think it's a French company, far cry from it's US beginnings)...this is a massive risk and very likely little reward after initial interest by enthusiasts. Should be obvious. This thing is already dead despite a nice chunk of change. Look no further than Ouya.

    Life?!...What console is that on?

I wouldn't even pay for these consoles and games, knowing that none of the original developers will profit from this. Used consoles and game copies on Ebay is the way to go.
Also, when I got a used game, I feel it's fair to use the said game ROM with any emulation box of my choice.

Ah, Sega-16. Another week, another "Is Sega thinking about a new console?" thread.

No, they aren't. Even if they did, they don't have the talent to put out many decent games anymore, and it would suck hard. Keep playing your Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast since they still kick ass.

Barring some totally unforeseen event, there is no way in hell Sega will release a new home console. It's completely at odds with the direction the company has taken.

I don't get why people want current SEGA in this current market to release a console. Be the dumbest decision and be one of the best lessons to be careful what you wish for. If SEGA was going to release an actual new console at the time was 2005-2006. The only thing they could do and even this the time has passed but partner with MS as MS does the hardware and SEGA becomes exclusive to them but the time for that was the original Xbox.

If it's anything like the Atari VCS, count me out. It will only be detrimental to the brand.

Great post. These micro-consoles have no market, no one cares about them. I think the most successful micro-console in the Nvidia Shield, and that has only sold like a couple million.

I wish Sega would actually do something on that system as the support for it is complete ass.

Even the "Atari" many here might know from a certain point in the 1980's wasn't even Atari either. Maybe Nolan was smart to get out or shall I say maybe he was smart to sell a potion of the company and then shown the door.

The original atari hasn’t existed since 1979. The fact they’re a whored out company is part of the charm of Atari lol

1984. 1984 is when the original Atari closed down.

The success of the Atari VCS is based on a very smart marketing. They've gone so far as to take out Google Ads so its easy to find their Indiegogo campaign. I find it very surprising that considering how much bad publicity this device has received, there are over 9,000 people who decided to invest in the product.

... And to answer the OP's question, no. SEGA's main focus should be to repair their brand by continuing to release quality games and smart acquisitions.
