As someone who lacks empathy because of mental illness. Yes, it does. Ok, I don't lack it entirely I can learn to have some for people and I certainly do for animals but with people, I struggle to find any most the time. Hitler had signs of many mental illnesses's. Just the time he was alive they didn't know enough about them but in retrospect, they have a pretty good idea. You seem to think mental illness hampers intelligence. It does not. Hitler was intelligent but also insane. You can be both and often people are. Most with mental illness are not violent or dangerous in any way. Sociopaths are not always violent but some are. The most common belief is he had borderline personality disorder. Narcissism and schizophrenia. You can have multiple and still function. Like me. I do not have what he had if those are the ones he truly did have. I just know as a person with multiple mental disorders I can still function at a high level. Oh and just for the hell of it. Anyone who supports Hitler. Fuck em. No reason for it. None. Again only madness. No, if's or buts. He was POS and the world became a better place when he put a bullet in his brain.
People do care just not enough do. Also, it's impossible to tackle all the worlds issues at once. I know what goes on in China to a degree and indeed it's dire. They still work on a company store salary for those with a job. Something the US phased out a long time ago. Also, part of it at least form where I sit is American media. TBH as crazy as it sounds. The final boss in Metal Rising is pretty spot on with his speech. The media is a business. It's not news. It's sensationalist crap a lot of the time or what story sells the most. Black girl or boy kidnapped. No coverage. Little white girl? All over the news. Fox News and CNN want to focus so hard on their political agenda they have become channels for morons who want to live under a rock. Then they focus so much on celebs. I never understood why people give a flying fuck about celebs. Who the fuck is Harry? Why do I give a shit if he marries some bitch I never heard of nor care about. They care more about BS than anything else. More people watch a fucking wedding than a god damn mother fucking moon landing. Something actually important. So I do agree people are a bit too self-absorbed when living comfortably. The people starving in China? Just eat cake! (Yes, I know she never said that) Then lastly, sometimes when there are so many cries for help it can become noise in a sea of social media.
One less cockroach is always better even if just a little bit. Studies have also shown this is actually the most peaceful the world had been in human history. There is still plenty of shit to fix but I truly believe that it only seems worse because we have so much information flowing by the second that it gets covered more.
If that's the case then how do you feel about the huge amount of crackdown in Britain in regards to the huge amount of censorship and thought-policing that's been happening? I'm fine with the idea of freedom of expression but it's a double-edged sword these days because people have different points of view and the shit that happened to Count Dankula was beyond retarded and should have never gotten that far over a stupid youtube video.
For those not in the know, Count Dankula is a guy living in the UK who decided to make a youtube video of his girlfriend's pug. She always treated the dog as the cutest thing in the world and it annoyed him so much he made a video of it on a private account on YT for him and his friends only to see it of him teaching the dog to raise it's paw in the air every time he said "Gas the Jews" or "Hail Hitler". Yeah was pretty stupid but it's a fucking dog who knows no better. His video got sent to the police and he was jailed for a short time and then went to fucking court where he was accused of promoting hate speech and forced to pay a fine of roughly $1500.00 iirc.
There is a point where you just have to realize he was being made an example of over a lameass joke that nobody especially Jewish people that didn't give a flying fuck about at all.
So yeah flying the Trump balloon I see as a level of hypocritical crap because yeah it's ok to hate on the president but oh noes, videos of dogs raising their paws in the air is something we must put a stop to.

Excellent post. When it comes to freedom of speech there really is a lot of hypocritical crap floating around. In my experience when a liberal tells you that he supports freedom of speech, what he means is that he only supports it as long as you say things that he agrees with, otherwise he'll deny your right to free speech and denounce you as a hate mongering Nazi. As somebody once said "There's nobody more intolerant than a liberal." This doesn't apply to all liberal thinking people of course, but in my experience it accounts for a great deal of them.

I wasn't going to keep going with this thread but since this is at least discussing historical events, I'm interested.
I had to look up what it was, but let's be realistic. Weather Underground was 1969-1977, and I doubt most people would even know what it was. I sure didn't.
But anyway it was some crazy violent group that only existed for 8 years, in the 70's.
It doesn't make any sense to make connections with that and practically anything else, especially 50 years later.
It's also absurd to associate liberals with violence. It's not a violent ideology to want people to have free healthcare, and equal rights, etc.
Finally the TYT show has nothing to do with any kind of violence either.
In all fairness the right wing is the party much more associated with violence.
It actually shows, when people have to dig 50 years back to find some small, relatively unknown group, which doesn't even represent basic ideology of progressives, which is nonviolent and peaceful.
This is a very good point. I've often heard similar studies saying that. And yes, it's the tech age with constant information flow which is making everyone so crazy.
Just imagine a time and place without tech and constant information. Our lives would naturally become focused primarily on our own lives, our family, friends, jobs, etc. And in such a world, sure crime would still happen, but probably most crime would be unknown by most people, whether a bank got robbed, or someone got killed, etc. It's the small, petty crimes that the news makes people crazy with.
I only just heard of it. My first response is that I understand why people would be worried about him committing violence. Sure maybe he didn't mean that, but I think it's a reasonable concern for someone making videos joking about murdering people, which is what it was, even though it was about a pug lol.
So while hate speech is not illegal, speech promoting violence is, and I think he was on the blurry line, at best, even if it was all just jokes.
Plus I could never understand how people think it's funny in any way, to joke about the Holocaust etc. Like what kind of sick mind finds humor in that lol.
There was a theme of people complaining about online conversations always calling people Nazis.
Well that theme made sense for a few years, but now that we have literal white supremacists openly in power, and blatantly doing the same exact small steps that the Nazis did start with in the 30's (such as separating families and shipping them around the country): Well, it's no longer meaningful to criticize people making comparisons to Nazis. Our government would seem to be copying them directly now.
Are you by chance referring to the stuff happening on the Mexican border? You know, that thing that was happening under Obama’s watch, also?
News report from 2014, indicating that the kids had absolutely caught Obama’s attention:
